“Well, it is believed to have been on display at a temple at Sais,” I said, as my mum struggled with getting her cloak tied.

“Sais was the capital of Egypt in about six hundred and sixty-four to five hundred and twenty-five BC…”

“Seriously, how does she remember this stuff?” Pip commented as I carried on,

“It’s located is on the western Rashid Branch of the Nile, halfway between Cairo and Alexandria.”

“Erm, so Egypt then?” my mum clarified with a smirk.

“Yeah, Egypt, and we have to go back before the Mamluk period, as that’s what new evidence suggests is when it was moved… and yes, before you ask, that’s how I got the right date,” I replied, making my mum do her class hand raise and ‘I was just asking’ look.

“But it was found in Fort Julien, right?” Sophia was tightening her boots, as we had all agreed good footwear was a must until we needed to ditch them to fit in. Of course, after she said this, Pip whistled, making Sophia roll her eyes and say,

“I do remember most things, and besides, I was around for most of this shit… older than the lot of you, remember?” This was when she smirked and pointed a finger at all of us.

“It was eventually used as building material in the construction of Fort Julien near the town of Rashid, which was also known as Rosetta, in the Nile Delta. It was discovered in July 1799 by French officer Pierre-François Bouchard during the Napoleonic campaign in Egypt. Okay, okay history lesson over. Jeez, it’s not like I am gonna make you guys take a test or anything…besides, Sophia would clearly beat you two.” At this I high fived Sophia when she held her hand high to me, making me smirk. Of course, Pip and my mum faked their outrage.

“We better go, after all, I don’t know how long those chains will last,” Pip said, making all three of us groan,

“Seriously?”

“Again, Pip?” my mum and Sophia said at the same time, making her shrug her shoulders as she removed as many of her piercings as she could.

“What? He was our greatest threat to waking up and now, this has bought us some more time in case he does, problem solved… simples,” she said this last part like the cute yet surprisingly disturbing Meercat in the TV commercial advertising insurance.

“Yeah, and he will also disturb the whole house when his beast wakes up with him, instead of just Adam, who would have most likely just calmly come looking for you,” Sophia said, pointing out the major flaw in this logic.

“Oh right… in that case, we better hurry,” Pip admitted, making me groan as we walked through the fireplace,

“The Fates are so screwed.”

Moments later and we were all standing next to the Janus Gate which was a magnificent fountain that could have fit a bus inside the circle of water. But this wasn’t all, as the water didn’t flow down like gravity would dictate it should, but instead it flowed straight up to the ceiling, disappearing to somewhere above and I had no clue where.

Of course, I was nervous, as it was said that if your cause was not worthy in the eyes of Janus, then just touching the water could kill you. Which was when my mum took my hand and said,

“It’s okay, me and Janus are tight… plus, I’ve done this once before and survived, so what could go wrong, right?” At that very moment, the thing that could go wrong just showed up and shockingly in the form of my cousin.

“Amelia!” she shouted, and I thought for a minute I was hallucinating.

“Ella?”I spoke her name in question before seeing it was true, as there she was. Of course, all thoughts of what we were about to do fled me and emotion took over as I started running toward her.

“ELLA!” I shouted as I threw myself in her arms seeing as she was ready for me.

“What happened to you? Why are you here, did something happen?” I asked quickly, now looking around and expecting Jared to walk in here following her… which would have been bad…very bad.But then as soon as I asked this, her face fell and unshed tears made her green eyes glisten.

“Oh Fae, it’s… it’s a mess… there was a raid on Jared’s club, he was sucked into some kind of portal and…” I looked back at my mum who looked torn, and I knew the feeling. But then she made the tough choice when telling her,

“I’m sorry, Ella, we can help, I promise you we will, but right now… Fae honey, I’m sorry but we don’t have much time.” I tensed at this, nodding to my mother who was trying to express so much in just that one look alone. If any one of our husbands woke, it would be game over. Meaning it was now or never. So, after taking a deep breath, I made my decision. Meaning I turned back to my cousin and told her,

“Ella, listen to me, I know what I am going to say won’t make much sense. I have to go, but I promise I won’t be long.” She frowned back at me, shaking her head a little and making my guilt double when she asked,

“What do you mean?”

“Okay so…” I was about to speak when my mum warned,

“Fae don’t…” and I knew why. She wanted to protect her, and I couldn’t blame her, but I had to give her something. I couldn’t just let her think we were all abandoning her in her time of need.

“I have to! I can’t just leave her here to think the worst…” I told my mum making her sigh before nodding in agreement.
