“She's a Chosen One, which means the gate would have allowed her access, and as the God of Fate, he would not have harmed a prophesized one.”

“How can you be so sure?” I asked in a small voice, hoping and praying that my mother was right.

“Because everything happens for a reason for us, which means everything happens for a reason for her,” my mother answered as Sophia approached, now putting a gentle hand on my shoulder,

“Your mother is right. Janus wouldn't have allowed her to pass if it wasn't her destiny to do so.” I released a held breath before asking,

“Then why isn't she here with us?”

“I don’t know, but all I do know is that she will be where the Fates have decided she needs to be, for her own future. She mentioned something about Jared and a portal, perhaps she has a King to save and the only way to do that, is in the past,” my mum said, making hope bloom bright in my chest.

“I hope so… I just hope I did the right thing… maybe if I hadn’t said anything, then maybe she would have…” This was when my mother framed my face and told me,

“No, Fae, don’t go there… don’t do that to yourself. None of this was your fault. She made a choice, just like we all did.” I released a sigh and nodded, knowing my mum was right, there was no turning back now. We just had to hope that wherever she was, she was safe. Like my mum had said…

She just had to be.

“Speaking of which, where are we?” my mother asked, looking around and taking in our surroundings like I just had. Because this was about as far away from Egypt as you could get. No, if anything…

“Is this England?” I looked to Sophia because if anyone would know, it was likely to be her. She looked around and we both watched as recognition sparked in her eyes.

“Could it be…?” she murmured, as she took in the rolling green hills looking bleak thanks to the rain and the very early morning light. In fact, it was still mostly dark, but the slight glow in the distance suggested it wouldn’t be too long before the sun was up.

“What is it, where are we?” I asked, taking in the countryside and not a shit load of sand like I had been expecting. However, this question was forgotten the second I started to look around for the fourth member of our group.

“PIP!” I shouted, making the others do the same.

“Oh Gods… Pip!” I shouted the second I heard a groan in the undergrowth. I raced over to where I heard the sound coming from a Hedgerow.

“So yeah, not in Kansas anymore,” she said as we helped her up and I straightened her wig and pulled some twigs and leaves out of it.

“No, we most definitely are not. Come on, we better get moving and try and find shelter out of this rain,” Sophia said, lifting the hood of her cloak and becoming the voice of reason. Yet, there was something in her tone that worried me. It was like she knew exactly where we were and because of it, she was worried.

“I think I can see a cottage, come on, let’s hope they have a barn so we can get shelter in there,” Sophia said obviously seeing what I couldn’t as it was strange, like with every step I took I started to feel different. But in the end, I put my growing fatigue and blurry eyes down to our situation.

We all trudged on through the thick mud as it appeared we had stumbled across a dirt road, making me wonder what year we had actually travelled back to.

“It looks like a cottage, but I don't see any lights on, or should I say candles,” my mum said with a shrug of her shoulders.

“How did you do this last time?” I asked, thinking this was most likely useful information to know.

“Two thousand years in the past? My ass just kind of landed in the desert. And let's just say going to the toilet wasn't exactly a delight,” my mum muttered sarcastically as we continued up the road toward the house.

The faint sounds of tinkering reminded me of wind chimes tapping in the wind, which certainly made for an eerie sound combined with the squelching of our feet. In fact, walking in the thick mud was making me glad I wore flat boots, despite knowing I would most likely have to do without them at some point if I wanted to fit in.

Although I wasn't so sure, seeing as we weren't exactly in Egypt. No, from the looks of the stone house, we were definitely in Europe, perhaps France or even Italy as Sophia hadn’t actually told us yet.

However, despite these many possibilities, I still couldn't help the feeling that we were in England somewhere. I then had to wonder if Ella was also somewhere in this time and if maybe by her coming through with us, it had somehow thrown us off course and out of timelines.

As we got closer to the building, I could see that it was simple in its design, thankfully seeing a stone cobble house and not a less sturdy wooden Tudor house. Did that mean we were well past a medieval age? We were most definitely before electricity, that was to be sure as there was nothing around to suggest that this could possibly be modern day or even close to it.

“Is anyone gonna knock?” my mum said as we approached the door, all looking at each other as if waiting for one of us to come up with the answer. Of course, the three of us groaned the second Pip joined us and happily was the first to knock on the door before opening it and saying,

“Yoo Hoo, hello in there, four little wet Goldilocks standing out here in the rain hoping the bears aren't home?”

“Really, Pip?” my mum asked smirking.

“Oh, come on, can you really blame me? I mean look at this place, it’s like something right out of a creepy fairy tale.” I shuddered at this as Pip wasn’t wrong.
