“Well, the last time we went back in time, your mother found herself with a knife held to her throat by your father… so hopefully it’s not that bad,” Pip said as if forgetting herself.

“What?!”I screeched.

“Pip!” Sophia also shouted.

“Hey, no biggie, I mean it all turned out okay, I mean sort of… he did make her part of his harem, so that part was fun… well until that bitch tried to… okay, shutting up now.” I started to rub my forehead in exasperation before this started to hurt so I stopped before I made my head bleed again.

“Dear Gods, this really is bad.”

“Unfortunately, it gets worse,” Sophia added when I said this and I quickly wondered how much more of this I could take.

“How so? Because seriously, how could this get any worse, Sophia?”

“The last time we went back in time, Pip was close enough to Keira that she was able to mask who she was to your father.” I shook my head at this, forgetting myself again and pushing through the pain this time enough to ask,

“What do you mean?”

“My brother was attracted to her, yes, and most definitely drawn to her and despite thinking it was forbidden, he even fell in love with her.”

“Okay, so that doesn’t sound so bad,” I said still not seeing her point, although this account didn’t exactly match up with Pip’s knife story.

“Yes, but this was despite not knowing that she was his Chosen One.” I looked to Pip again, my eyes wide and questioning,

“You can do that?” She shrugged her little shoulders.

“Yeah, I can do that.”

“But why? I don't understand, wouldn't it be easier if he knew?” I asked, feeling like I was missing the bigger picture here and really wishing I had learned all this before we left on this crazy journey… although, when we would have had the time to do that, I wasn’t sure.

“Your father, like most of the kings, doesn't exactly like to share, nor do they like to let go of their possessions. But when finding your Chosen One, the one soul Fated to be yours from the very Gods… well, let's just say my brother can take possessive to a whole other level. Whereas, back in your time, the act of taking a Chosen One prisoner would be known as nothing more than being barbaric, here to the King of Kings, well let's just say he would feel it within his right to do so and not be questioned by anyone.” At this my mouth dropped open,

“But… But that's… that's insane!” I cried.

“No, to a king, it is simply his right.”

“So, you’re telling me that my father has likely taken my mother as his prisoner, one he intends to marry… do I have that right?”

“Yep, pretty much a nutshell situation,” Pip answered, patting me on the back.

“Come on, we’d best get moving if we are going to reach it before the storm hits,” Sophia said and started walking.

“But wait, what are we going to do when we get there?” At this she smirked back at me and said,

“What do you think we're gonna do… we're going to break your mum out of my brother’s prison.”

“His prison!” I shrieked again, this time loud enough to frighten wildlife as a few birds took flight.

“Not the sentence you thought you were going to hear today, eh…? But don’t worry, little bean, when she says prison, what she means is his bedroom, as trust me, the only place he’d want to be keeping her right now is…”

“Okay, I get it, this is already enough to have me needing therapy, Pip, I don’t need any added visuals.” She laughed when I said this, now skipping along the road that I knew would be a muddy nightmare again when that storm hit.

“So, other than the plan being to break my mother out from my father's castle, hundreds of years in the past, I might add, and one where he doesn't even know he has a daughter… never thought I'd be saying that sentence either…” I muttered this last part making Pip shoot back,

“Really, like not even a little bit, considering we're in the past and all.” I shot Pip a single look that was enough of an answer before continuing with my rant,

“… how are we planning on doing this?” I asked as we continued on, this time veering off the road and taking what I assumed was a shortcut across the fields.

“Thankfully, I know this place and I know it well enough to make it inside, I'm just hoping I've got the year right,” Sophia said, making me catch up to her as I was lagging behind.
