“What?”

“Are you sure?”

“Why would she leave?”

They’re all talking at once, and their questions are stupid, so I walk into the kitchen where I know they’ll join me in five seconds. I start making coffee because there isn’t really any point in rushing around. I pull out four cups from the cabinet and get creamer out of the fridge because I can’t drink coffee that tastes like coffee. My prediction was correct though, and everyone is fuming in the kitchen before the coffee is ready.

“How long have you known she was gone, Adler?” I turn to face my twin.

“About sixty seconds longer than you,Hayes.“ I don’t need the attitude.

“Well, we have to go after her. What if she just left?” We all hear the naïve hope in Gray’s voice.

“Isn’t the fact that she left at all enough for you?”

Gray steps closer to me. “She was upset and emotional. She’s been through more than most people would be able to handle. So no, the fact that she left isn’t enough for me to give up.” I shake my head at him and turn back toward the coffeemaker as it starts to crank out the caffeine.

“Why would she go back to them? After everything she heard, how upset she was, it doesn’t make sense.” Wade’s words ignite a spark of hope in me, but I try to extinguish it.

“Exactly, that’s what I’m saying. Yes, she left, but there’s no way she skipped her merry way home and that’s the end of it,” Gray chimes in again, and I spin back around to face them.

“No, I’m sure it’s not the end of it. Maybe we’ll get really lucky and the police will show up here soon to arrest us all.”

Wade shakes his head at me. “Oh, please. You know as well as I do that even in the unlikely event that Rory wants to go to the police, her father will never allow it.”

I sigh. “I don’t know what I know anymore.”

“Don’t be a little bitch, Addy.” Hayes stomps over to me and nudges me with his shoulder.

“I know you want to close up shop and protect yourself now, but she needs us. You get that, right? Last night, that woman dropped her walls for us. She needed us, and she let us in. Whatever the fuck she’s doing now, we have to be there for her.”

“He’s right, Adler. She took my shirt. Why would she do that if she was planning to forget about us or turn us in? Our girl is smart, and she obviously is up to something. Let’s not be the same kind of assholes as everyone else in her life, okay?” Wade smiles at me, and I roll my eyes.

Gray’s face lights up at the majority being in agreement with him. “Yeah, let’s be different kind of assholes.” He slaps my back, and I can’t hold back my chuckle.

“Fine. I won’t assume the worst, but that’s the best I can offer. So what do we do now, then? Storm the castle gates and get our Princess back?”

We all exchange looks, and Wade laughs. “Yeah, pretty much. Let’s get our noble steeds and white knight the fuck out this shit.”

I pour us all coffee, and we grab some food before sitting down at the table to plan. The problem with Rory impulsively leaving without telling anyone is that we don’t know what she’s going to do. What if she needs time and space and we bust in and wreck whatever she’s plotting? Or conversely, what if she did something really stupid and she needs us right now but we’re sitting here eating toast? Women are complicated.

“Honestly, with all the shit we have on Henry and Brendan, we can show our faces and get out without a problem. They aren’t going to the cops. Let’s figure out if she’s at her parent’s house or if she went to her house with that fuckstick, swoop in, tell them all to get fucked, and bring her back here where she belongs.” Wade claps his hands together like it’s going to be so simple.

“Sounds good to me, but we’re forgetting something important.” Three sets of eyes focus on me. “Should we call Mal and tell her what’s going on? She’d want to know, and she might have some insight into how we should proceed.”

“I think we should leave Mal out of it for now. She gave us the lead on this a long time ago, and after last night, I think it would be better to deal with this on our own and fill her in when everything is fine. We were always going to reveal ourselves to Henry, so our plan has only shifted a little bit.” Gray shrugs, but his logic makes sense and saves us the time of having to bring Mal up to speed and waiting for her to decide what to do.

“I agree. I know Hayes is of the same mind. Wade?” As our unofficial leader, he’ll make the

final call.

“Let’s leave Mal out of it. We can meet up with her later and explain everything that happened. I don’t want to waste time that we aren’t sure we have. Let’s all get dressed and be ready to get out of here in the next half hour.”

With Wade’s decision, we all stand and head to our rooms. The ache in my chest at finding Rory gone and thinking she left us without any intention of seeing us again is easing up, but I’ll feel much better when she’s back here where she belongs. We all will.

Rory

AfterMomfoundthemaid, we all enjoyed mimosas with a delicious breakfast made up of too much fucking food. I had a heaping pile of pancakes, cheesy hash browns, eggs, fruit, and a muffin. With it still being so early, if you can call half past eight early, Mom decided to go back to bed for a while, but I’m not doing that. So now I’m sitting at the island, staring awkwardly between my father and Brendan, who are trying so hard to act like everything is back to normal.
