The whole day was spent contacting every Faction in Kazola, telling them the parameters we needed them to look for when researching potential early cases involving Elliot. We were able to narrow it down to a five-year timeframe, meaning we would hopefully have some potential reports in our offices by the next day.

The next few days were going to be important as we gained new information about Elliot and his demented, twisted ways. Hope bloomed in my chest—maybe we would be the ones to take this sick man down.

I couldn’t get too far ahead of myself, so I focused on the task ahead for that night; forcing Mylo into a little meeting, hopefully ending with some answers. But first, I had to talk to someone about this new idea of mine.

I knocked on the office door, grumbling from the other side telling me to come in.

“Hey.” I walked a few paces in, Eden and Greyson looking up at me, eyes glazed over from a full day of work. “How are you two progressing?”

“As well as I suppose we can.” Greyson shrugged his broad shoulders. “Still waiting to hear back from our territories.”

“Good work, though.” I smiled tensely. “Gray, can I have a minute with Eden?”

“Uh-oh, I’m in trouble,” Eden teased, dropping her stilo on her desk and leaning back in her velvet cushioned chair.

“Nothing like that.” I shook my head. “Just need to talk.”

“Alright,” Greyson said, standing up and walking toward the door. “Just come get me when you’re done, Edie.”

The door clicked behind him.

“What’s going on? Are you alright?” Eden asked, gesturing for me to sit.

“I’m fine, I promise, I just needed to update you on something.” I sat down, my hands twisting together in my lap. “I have to go and visit Mylo tonight.”

Her face darkened. “What? Why?”

“A lead for the Elliot case.” I leaned forward to rest my arms on the edge of her desk. “You know I wouldn’t be going there if it wasn’t important.”

“I know, I know.” She shook her head, letting out a deep breath. “If you’re asking me to go with you…”

“You know I would never ask that of you.”

Her shoulders loosened. “Good, thank you.”

“But I shouldn’t go alone. So, I’m taking Nolan with me.”

Her eyebrows shot up, eyes wide. “Oh, really now?”

I tried not to laugh. Of course, that was what she was focusing on. “Stop it. He was the smart choice. Mylo doesn’t know who he is yet, and this is a prime opportunity to use that against him and his crew to get the answers we need.”

“Keep telling yourself that, Kas.” She gave me a knowing smirk.

I swallowed a lump in my throat, trying not to think about the knot of nerves tightening in my stomach. This was oddly a big step forward for the two of us. Not only were we working together on Compound, but I had invited him to follow a lead and be my partner for the day.

And every moment of it felt extremely…natural.

I shook it off, focusing on Eden. “Either way, he’s going to meet Mylo tonight. And I didn’t want you blindsided if he brought it up at some point tomorrow.”

“Thank you.” She looked down at her lap. “Just…don’t tell Nolan about…my past with that family. I know I have to tell him, and I will soon, I just want to be the one to tell him. In my own words, no one else’s.”

“I promise.” I nodded. “And I’ll try my best to keep Mylo under control so he doesn’t give anything away.”

Eden scoffed, rolling her bright green eyes. “Good luck with that.”

“Are we okay?” I asked, leaning forward to grasp her hand.
