“Follow her!” I urged him, and he did. I suddenly met blackness as the agony of impact rippled through my immortal body. I sucked in air, opening my eyes to the same deranged white irises and wild black curls. She had me pinned to the ground, snapping at me while growling in fury. I gripped her throat, pushing with all of my might to keep her teeth away from my neck. Freeing one of my legs, I kicked her in the chest, propelling her some twenty feet away.

Before Noel could come to her feet, before she could register what had happened, I sprinted to her and held her to the ground by her neck.

She smirked.

“What is going on, Noel?” I pressed, grasping her hands in one of my own, pinning them above her head.

She laughed maniacally, “She’s mine now, Rosemary. She thinks she’smydaughter. I have raised her these last thirty years while you ran like a coward from William.” She spit in my face. I tightened my grip on her neck, her saliva dripping.

“I’m going to fucking kill you!” I screamed through clenched teeth, tears twin rivers down my face. Betrayal filled every crevice of my body, hot, and burning. A fire blazed underneath my skin, my ears humming with utter need to destroy her.

How dare she?She stole my daughter, she killed me! She raised MY daughter!

I squeezed Noel’s neck tighter, the sensation of it beginning to severe under my fingers. It sizzled in my chest, this was it.

Do it,I thought, kill her now.I took her hair in my other hand, wrapping it around to create leverage. She fought and kicked weakly underneath me while I tugged, testing the resistance. I dug my nails into her neck and she screamed in pain; a scream that curdled the blood of any ears close enough to witness it.

God, this was it.

And it felt good.

I pressed my lips to the shell of her ear, sinking my nails further into her neck. She gurgled.

“I hope you rot in hell for all eternity to pay for what you have done to my family.”

A vampyre approached, pulling my attention away from Noel in a lapse of judgment. Adam hauled me into the air, throwing me onto the roof of the shops. The world whirled by dizzyingly as slid up the roof with the force, shattering the shingles in a hail storm of shale. I scrambled to my feet, the left side of my body protesting after impact.

Adam gathered Noel into his arms, hauling toward the River Avon. Leaping from the roof with a limp, I followed close behind.

Adam knew, consistently peering at me from over his shoulder.

“Damn you, Rosemary!” he shouted, approaching a home outside of the city. He entered the gate of the vast estate, a home made of the same Bath stone as the rest of the area, windows black, trees hiding most of the façade. Adam set Noel on her feet, allowing her to gather herself after her near beheading. She glowered at me, hand on her neck, dashing inside the house.

Adam blocked the doorway as I made my way inside the iron gate.

“You may not enter,” he said, eyes deep, sapphire blue. He had just fed.

“Move, Adam, please. You’re my brother, I won’t kill you if you just let me dispose of her,”

“I will not allow you to harm her.” His stance became defensive, his white fangs gleaming in the silver moonlight. I crouched, adrenaline pumping in my ears..

“You leave me no choice.” I pounced, gripping his arms as he flung himself toward me, tearing them off in one swift movement. He cried out, hitting the ground and rolling to his knees.

“What thefuckhave youdone?” he yowled.

“I did what I had to do,” I convulsed, throwing my brother’s dismembered arms to the ground, something sick twisting in my gut. Noel stood in the door once more, her eyes a deep chocolate brown, blood at the corners of her mouth. She sneered, fangs dripping.

“Well, well, well.” She sauntered forth. I made a leap for her, but she grabbed my legs midair, swinging me into the tree. I caught myself on the high branches, watching as she quickly gathered Adam’s limbs for him to reattach. They stopped as they, too, heard swift footsteps approaching. William and our girl, no doubt.

“Dammit, Noel, hurry!” Adam cried. I leapt from the tree, kicking Noel in the back with such force her form created an impression in the soft earth. Adam, the traitorous bastard, charged full force at me, I jumped out of the way, losing my footing on one of his arms.

William and our daughter burst through the gate, gasping at the scene before them. Helena helped Noel to her feet, eyes darting between all of us cautiously.

“What is going on?” she demanded. “This man says he is my father. I feel it is true, like I… Iknowit to be true. Mother, please, I need to know what this means!” She was outraged watching Adam spit on his arms, reattaching them. William took me into his grasp, inspecting me briefly before I turned my attention onto Noel once more. I was not going to let down my guard again.

Noel was flustered, she threw her hand up at William.

“Mon amour, heisyour father. Your true birth father. You see it in his eyes, his expression. He left us when you were just an infant.” I laughed loudly and without humor at her ridiculous lie.
