“You have no business inviting other powerful wolves into my territory.”

“Myterritory, upon which I allow you to exist, but it won’t take much to change my mind about that. Tread carefully, wolf.”

“You and your pet lion—”

Gavin touched the end button on the phone and cut the Alpha off. “He’s growing tiresome, but the ‘pet lion’ thing is something we’re going to need to address.”

Nick shook his head. “Any denial will make it seem more factual. It gives it weight.”

“I’m not suggesting we deny it, I’m suggesting we blow it out of the water. We both know Lauren isn’t big on what she calls PDA, but that doesn’t mean the two of us can’t engage.”

Nick frowned. “What are you saying?”

“I’m saying we need to get used to kissing each other. I understand that you are never going to be okay with me fucking you, and that’s fine, but I’m not entirely opposed to you fucking me.”

Nick crossed his arms. “I’m not dominant to you. That won’t work.”

“Nothing says the fuckee has to be submissive to anyone. Maybe he occasionally enjoys being fucked?”

“Do you?”

“Not often, no, but sometimes, absolutely. Zander always knew when I needed it, and he was dominant enough to pull it off and make me submissive. You and I won’t have that dynamic, but we can do it as something approaching equals. If we get used to kissing each other enough we’re comfortable doing it around others, and if I appear dominant sometimes, and you appear dominant sometimes, it should confuse the issue enough people will stop with thepet lionbullshit.”

Nick took two rapid steps towards Gavin, wrapped his hand around the back of his skull, and gave Gavin a kiss that curled his toes. No magic, no power, just raw masculinity tinged with affection. Gavin’s inner vampire wanted to rage, but Gavin pushed that feeling down and let Nick control the kiss. Lips and teeth and tongue, all with the heat of the lion behind it, contrasting with Gavin’s undead coolness.

The kiss ended several long moments after it started, and the two men remained in an embrace, Gavin’s dick hard as motherfucking granite, and he could scent the lust coming from Nick.

“You like the idea of fucking me?”

“Yes, while you’re eating out our girl, or maybe while you’re fucking her.”

Gavin’s dickthrobbedin his pants. “I like both plans. We need to give Lauren a heads up that you’re going to make a bit of a spectacle out of kissing me.” He chuckled. “I’d had this idea we could engage in casual, quick kisses, but I like your way so much better.”

Nick went to step back, and Gavin released him so he could.

“I didn’t much like you, when you first moved to Branson,” Nick said.

“I know. I’m glad you’ve changed your mind. The thing is, in the beginning, we were together because Lauren cared for both of us, but over time, we’ve formed our own relationship.”

Nick looked at his phone on the dresser, and looked back to Gavin. “It occurs to me that if someone eveninsinuatedBecca was Kendric’s pet lioness, she’d make them regret it. She wouldn’t wait to see what Kendric did.”

“You’re probably right, but Kendric would likely act without waiting for his lioness to do so.” Gavin sighed. “But when I consider the balls it would take to call Cora Marco’s pet wolf? I’d be way more afraid of Cora than Marco. So, you have a point that we should probablybothwork on seeding terror amongst our people a little better. I’ve focused on trying to be seen as fair, but maybe it’s time to show my true colors?”

“The rumor is that Lauren has neutered you, which seems bizarre to me because I think you’re even more scary now that you’re trying to make sure you provide a safe city for her, so she can walk around Vegas without so many bodyguards, eventually.”

“It doesn’t help that she basically won the challenge for me. According to Vampire law, I won because she’s mine, thus her magic is mine, but realistically? Doesn’t matter. I wasn’t trying to win, but I can’t exactly admit to that. I’m happy with the move from Branson to Vegas, but it wasn’t my intention.” He looked out the window at the chaos of lights, and looked back to Nick. “The invitations went out so only the supernaturals will have access to the rooftop courtyard. I’m thinking one of us should make an example of someone tonight, should they dare say anything negative about the three of us — individually or collectively.”

Nick crossed his arms. “Agreed.”

Chapter 44

Nick made his way to the lobby area where his pride was supposed to gather, and was relieved to see they were all present. He’d warned them not to be tardy, but two of his lionesses had serious issues with timeliness. He’d punished them severely for it on several occasions, and it seemed to have finally taken.

“Security is going to take your partners up now, and we’ll follow shortly. We want the visual of the Pride arriving together.”

“Fashionably late?” Ashley asked.

“Late enough we’ll be seen.” Once the partners were gone, Nick told them, “All humans at the party at this time know about supernaturals. The human politicians and business owners have invitations inviting them an hour later than everyone else, so our entrance will be for a supernatural audience. For the duration of the party, no humans will be allowed on the roof, so those of you with human partners may need to stash them with a friend so you can be seen up top. Ten minutes minimum, though I’d prefer thirty, even if you do it in two sessions of fifteen minutes. Also, remember there is safety in numbers. I don’t expect there to be problems, but if there are while you’re on the roof, handleit, and back each other up. It’s important we all exude strength and solidarity.” He looked around and met everyone’s gaze before asking, “Anything I need to be aware of?”
