But right now, I need to figure out my next move.

I call over the radio, asking for Christine, hoping she can help me undo the fuckery I’ve caused.

Hurting Brooke was never my intention. I was so filled with frustration and guilt, I could hardly think straight, and it just slipped out.

Don’t forget lust…

I truly am a scumbag.

And now—fuck. I don’t blame her if she never forgives me. What I said is indefensible. I still can’t believe I uttered those thoughtless words.

For months, all I could think about was finding her and getting her to safety. Even before the dead took the damn city, I tried like hell to get to her, but getting past Fitzpatrick security is no easy thing.

And when the dead finally found their way into the city, they were gone. Their penthouse abandoned.

Christine:You better have a good reason for dragging me away from my work.

Gabriel:Yeah, um…what do you know about psychology?

Christine:Next to nothing, though I’ve been told I have psychopathic tendencies. Why do you ask?

Gabriel:I found my sis.

Christine:When are you bringing her in?

Gabriel:It’s not that easy. She’s different.

Christine:I’m guessing she’s crazy, seeing as how you’re asking about psychology.

Gabriel:Bad men had her…

Christine:You’re all bad men.

Gabriel:Cut your shit, Christine.

Christine:Tell me everything.

Gabriel:I, uh, found her in a club. Highland Heights is rebuilding into what’s now called Lowtown, and wouldn’t you know it, one of the first things to open up was a titty bar?

Christine:That’s hardly surprising.

Gabriel:I found her there after gathering intel. On a stage. She seemed…to enjoy it.

Christine:Some women do.

Gabriel:I almost left, because it didn’t seem like she needed rescuing. Then some guy came out and fuck—what he said, I could not abide.

Christine:Let me guess, you went all big brother ballistic?

Gabriel:Yep.

Christine:How’d that work out for you?

Gabriel:I shot a few people, made some noise, and got the hell out of there with my baby sis.

Christine:And she’s not how you expected her to be, is she?

Gabriel:I honestly don’t know what I expected. The last time I saw her was four years ago. She was so sweet then. Now…I just don’t know.
