“No. As of right now, all single men will begin their people finding mission. Every single person you find is to be interrogated. If any of the men have useful skills, engineering, medicine, shit like that, they’re to be brought in. The women and children should be brought in, regardless.”

This seems to sate Dane, who, for once, doesn’t argue.

“What about the partnered men?” Gage asks.

“If you find yourself without a job, pest control around the base.”

He nods.

“Alistair, Britney yours.” His gaze narrows. “And Jesus Christ, don’t scare her any more than she already is.”

“Yes, Sir!”

“Gabe, I need to know where I can find this Hank guy, and what I need to give him to get him to talk.”

“He’s a simple man on a humble quest for tits and ass, but a good bottle of Scotch might do.”

“A man after my heart,” Dane grumbles.

“Atticus, radio who you can and tell them the new objectives,” Cole instructs.

“Roger that.”

“Dismissed.”

YOURS

BROOKE

Despite all the times that Gabriel described the Keep to me, I never truly understood how grand it was. How it looks like it’s pulled from a science fiction movie.

I was raised in luxury, which the Keep lacks with its cement walls and smooth, tile floors, but its functionality is unparalleled. There’s a medical center, a farm, dorms to fit hundreds, food enough to last for decades.

And don’t get me started on the entertainment. I’m pretty sure they have every single movie and television show ever created.

“It’s not so bad,” I tell Britney, who is seated with her legs drawn in. “At least we’ll never be bored.”

She rolls her eyes. “Oh, yeah—it has everything I’ve ever wanted.”

After our inspections, we were moved to a common area and told to await our ‘Keepers’. Christine said the words with obvious distaste, and I wonder what her situation is.

“I know it must suck to not have control, but it’s eat well here or starve out there.”

“Some fucking guy claimed me! They were talking about how I was his in the helicopter. I don’t even know him, yet because he was the first on the scene to my very well-earned breakdown, he gets first dibs.”

I shrug. “It could be worse. I mean, it’s not Frank.”

“What kind of name is Alistair, anyway?”

“He looked handsome enough.”

“You can fuck him, then!”

“At least if he hurts you, there’ll be hell to pay.”

“Whatever.”
