Page 3 of Vicious Bargain

Yet somehow, after the world fell, with no more police to arrest criminals, I end up incarcerated.

It’s not like I had imagined it’d be, though admittedly, this is a different world. There was no trial. No lawyers. No presumption of innocence.

No release date.

The setup these guys have is unreal. I’m pretty sure I’m below ground, because when I was initially taken for inspection, there were no windows in the room I was seen in, or any of the halls leading to where I’m being held now.

But what’s even more impressive is that there’s electricity. Whoever these people are, they have a safe shelter, are armed to the teeth, never miss a meal, and aren’t lacking in necessities.

There is one thing they’re missing, however: women.

How do I know this? They make it obvious, telling me as much, promising me protection and a full belly in exchange for favoring them. I was told it was better to choose now, before the choice was made for me.

They’ve yet to rape me. I keep waiting for that day, mentally preparing myself for the desecration of my flesh. I’ve already been through it countless times, so I’m numb to it.

I can only pray that these men aren’t as vicious as the last.

The holding has ten cells, but only two are occupied, and my fellow convict refuses to acknowledge my presence.

He literally acts like I don’t exist.

About a month ago, he was thrown into his cell. He never replies to my questions, which makes me wonder if he even knows English, because he doesn’t look like he has a drop of Caucasian in him.

He must have done something terrible, because on the occasion they do take him from his cell, he comes back bruised and bloodied.

Yeah, these guys arenotabove torture.

They are, however, far gentler when questioning me. But I know their restraint is bound to come to an end. They’re obsessed with finding out more about the Reaver’s home base.

And I’ll do anything to protect it.

Their leader, Cole, isn’t too happy about that, but he’s hardly been cruel. He’s the only man around that doesn’t eye fuck me every time he sees me.

Well, he and the other prisoner.

He’s older than the others, though still handsome with a taut body, wicked eyes, and a deep, rumbly voice that resonates within me long after he’s left the holding.

And no, I’m not pining for him. It’s just facts.

I pissed him off by lying about the Reaver’s location, yet he still didn’t hurt me. I kind of wish he had, because it’d be so much easier to hate him if he did.

Of all the people questioning me, there’s only ever been one that made me feel like the monster I’ve become. One that almost made me regret my actions.

Almost.

Selina came down a few weeks after I arrived, her eyes red-rimmed and full of rage.

She hates me.

She has good reason to.

She punched me three times before they pulled her off. What they didn’t know was that I wanted her to punch more. That I wanted her to beat the life clean out of me. So I didn’t have to live in such torture.

If only she knew how lucky she was that it was these men that found her and not Gunther, because while she may be a prisoner here, her cage has a much better view. She has a safe place to raise her girl, and a group of men that will do anything to protect them.

During the long stretches of nothing, it’s hard not to think about what I’ve lost. How hollow I feel without the other half of my heart.

Does Seth even remember me now? I wonder how much he’s grown. How he spends his time.
