I’ve met men with fewer balls than Amber.
She’s got to be all of five-three, a buck ten when wet, with a face so innocent you’d think she was an angel.

All at once, I lose myself to pain.

A scowl appears on his face as he turns and exits the mission planning room.

I punch in the orders for the next week and go to get a cup of coffee, but as I’m waiting in line, I’m greeted with another sour face.
Corporal Jim McAlister, a man who I’ve hosted at my own house, looks like he’s about to rip my head off.
“Look, is something wrong? People have been giving me the stink eye all day.”
“Heard your little boy had to go to the hospital.”
“He fell off the play set. It gave us a good scare, but he’s fine.”
He snickers. “Is that so?”
“Earth to Cole?” Amber’s voice pulls me to the present.
I drill my eyes into hers. “You don’t know what I’m capable of.”

“Oh, yeah—what’s that?”
“Pleasuring a woman.”
I can’t help but laugh. “Like you didn’t cream all over my hand, dick, and face.”
Her cheeks redden, which reminds me she’s not the brazen woman she pretends to be. She’s acting. Playing a role. Perhaps it’s a survival mechanism she learned while in Gunther’s camp.
“There’s nothing to be embarrassed about,” I say as I feed her another spoonful of soup. “Your reaction was normal.”
For once, she doesn’t respond.
