Page 80 of Cruel Bargain

A man named Grady, who I don’t know too well, stops in and cracks a beer.

“So how are things with Melody?” Alistair asks.

“If I could just pull her away from the three demonesses that have her waiting for the second coming of Gunther, maybe I’d make some progress.”

Melody is one of the Reaver chicks that came over months ago. She’s the shyest of them, never uttering a word.

“That can be arranged,” Cole says. “If you think it’ll help the cause.”

“Nah, man. Give it time. I don’t want to traumatize her and end up in a ‘Britney Situation’.”

“Hey!” I snap, punching him in the shoulder.

Alistair interrupts with, “You’d be lucky to have the enemies-to-lovers meet cute Britney and I have.”

Every single woman in the vicinity looks at him, shocked expressions on their faces.

“Why is your Keeper using trashy romance novel lingo?” Selina says with an upticked brow.

“I went through a lot of shit when she was mad at me. I was so desperate, I was jerking off to anything.”

Suki spits her drink out and looks at Trent in absolute horror. “Did I misunderstand?”

“No, baby. He said what he said.”

Again, we laugh as each of us is teleported to better times, where we haven’t lost people we loved and our lives were filled with choices.

When the party draws to a close, people give me their well wishes before returning to their lives, looking ever so hopeful for the future.

It’s amazing what a simple party can do for the spirit.

“You about ready to go back to the apartment?” Alistair finally asks, casting me a lust-filled gaze.

“I thought you’d never ask.”

ALISTAIR

My lips crash against Britney’s as we cross the threshold into our apartment. Heat rages through my veins, feeding primal wants Britney has every intention of kindling.

I grab a handful of her blonde hair, relishing its silky texture. I can’t wait to sleep next to her, breathing it in.

It feels like it’s been a lifetime since I last held her in my arms, and I aim to make up for every lost second.

“Did you think about me while you were in?” I ask, pulling off her shirt. I go to my knees to relieve her of her pants.

“Let’s just say I got realllllly good at self-care.”

I look up at her, scowling. “No one gets to please this pussy but me.” I yank her panties down.

She bites her lower lip teasingly. “So I take it you committed no stress relief?”

“Well, I wouldn’t go that far…”

She crosses her arms over her chest. “So that’s how it is?”

“I’m your Keeper, which means you don’t have to lift a finger—and that’s okay! I’m totally cool with doing all the work. I don’t make the rules, but I’ll definitely enforce them.”
