She chuckled. “Let me know when you’re coming, and I’ll make sure to meet you afterward.”

“It’s a date.” We finished our drinks and headed out. The blast of icy wind stung my face and the tips of my ears. “Fuck it’s cold.”

She laughed and put the hood on her jacket up. “I don’t mind it so much. My namesake and all.”

A grin tugged at my lips. I’d take her over this bitter cold any day.

When we got back to the Crow’s Nest, I walked her to her car and struggled to figure out what to say.

Winter saved me. “If you’re free, there’s a seven o’clock show of A Christmas Carol tomorrow night.”

“I’ll be there.” I smiled, aching to touch her, but thinking better of it. “I guess I’ll see you then. I’ll call if I get any information on another abandoned baby.”

“Thanks.” She opened her car door. “I guess I’ll see you tomorrow.”

“Sounds good.” I closed her car door and watched her drive away before I took out my cell and pressed my brother’s name.

“Jackson? Where the hell have you been?”

“Hey Jaron. I’ve been busy, but…” I needed to tell someone. “I found my mate.”

The phone went so quiet I thought the call dropped. Finally, my brother said, “Seriously? When? Who is she?”

“Just a few minutes ago. I reached out to offer her some support and my wolf howled.”

Jaron laughed. “I can’t believe it. Damn, bro, that’s amazing news. When do I get to meet her?”

“It’s Winter Allen, from high school, remember?”

His voice softened. “She’s in the Coven of Light.”

I nodded even though he couldn’t see me. “Yeah. I finally met her in person today.”

“Must’ve shocked her to find out she’s also a werewolf’s mate.”

I started my car staring out into the darkness. “I didn’t tell her yet.”

Jaron cursed under his breath. “She doesn’t know?”

“What was I going to say? I know we just met, but you’re the only woman I’m ever going to love?” Saying it out loud only bolstered my belief that I had done the right thing by keeping that information to myself.

Jaron sighed. “It sounds creepy when you say it like that. Maybe just start with telling her your wolf recognized her. That you’ll always protect her, something like that.”

“No one would believe the guy building their house was such a romantic.”

My brother owned his construction company. He built custom homes and restored historic houses in Boston and Salem. But behind the tool belt and his gym rat body, my twin brother was definitely a poet.

Jaron chuckled. “They wouldn’t believe I was a werewolf either so, I’ll just stick with being a contractor for now.” He paused. “I’m happy for you, bro.”

“Thanks. I’ll talk to you soon.” I ended the call and tossed my phone on the passenger seat.

Start with telling her I’d always protect her. I could do that.

Maybe tomorrow after the play.

First, I had a missing baby to find for her.
