My body erupts to my knees and crawls to the edge of the bed where she’s looking. My chest clutches when I see Tony’s shoe…

“Is that a man’s shoe…” Guilia laughs, stepping completely inside my room, a gall like no other on her. She bends down and picks it up but then freezes. Her gaze is directly focused underneath the bed. I close my eyes, and wait ….

Full gut laughter explodes from her and she bounces back up to stand. “There’s a dude under there, Em!” She shrieks and I cringe.

I hear him sigh before crawling out from under the bed, his underwear thankfully back on. “I mean, at least he’s good looking…” Emma points.

I stand up from the bed.

“Mom, you could have told us you had a boyfriend,” Guilia says with an attitude brimming in her tone. “We aren’t babies. We don’t care.”

I look at Tony.

The word boyfriend seems like a stretch.

“He’s not my boyfr—“

“We haven’t established labels yet,” he interrupts.

I look at him, eyes wide. What the hell are you doing, Tony?

“Well, since you’re here..” Emma trails. “Do you want to have dinner?”

“Oh, I don’t think—“ I start but Guilia glares daggers.

“You’re not going to let him eat with us?” She asks, interrupting me.

I sigh, defeated.

“Hey, mom!” Mattia yells abruptly, his deep voice booming against the walls. The door shuts hard. “I ordered pizza for dinner!”

“Pizza sounds great…” Tony whispers, awkwardly, looking from my daughters to me.

“Awesome…” Emma says, grabbing Guilia by the bicep. “Let’s give them some privacy…”

I think I’m about to have an aneurysm. “Why did you agree to dinner!?” I snap, smacking him in the arm.

He grabs it dramatically. If I really wanted to hurt him, I would have.

“How bad can it be?” He asks. “They’re just kids…”

“They’remykids…” I snort. “It’ll be pretty bad…”

Chapter 10

Tony

Herkidsareintense.A lot more intense than I could ever give kids credit for. We’re sitting at their luxury dining table in this absolute mansion of a penthouse. And they’re all staring me down like a fucking criminal.

I mean… Iama criminal

But they’re acting like I’m on trial…

Like I’d just stolen their XBOX or something.

And I can’t tell if they’re just shaking me down, putting out feelers, or if they’re really pissed I’m screwing their mother.

“So, you’re banging our mom?” The boy named Tomasso asks, his mouth full, as I take a sip of my water.
