I’d had my ass kicked a time or two myself.
I knew I could win this with this guy…
Even if he was kicking my ass at the moment.
I contain my anger. Rushing in too fast was always grounds to get your ass beat quicker than anything. You have to stay calm and collected if you want to be efficient.
Although it’s like a fire roaring in my gut, I know I have to use my head. My anger would be released soon enough.

Each punch…
The guy’s muscles are twice what mine are. He’s younger. Faster. And he’s wailing on me.
One hand with a blade, and the other popping me in the face …blow after blow after blow…
I know for a fact that on the outside looking in, it didn’t look like there was a chance in hell for me.
But I always love a challenge.
I swing my right fist to his jaw, right in between punches, too quick for him to dodge. His head snaps back. Metal clanks against the grate, and his knife falls into the depths below.
I reel again.
A pain slices through my neck, and a buzzing sound goes off in my head. I’m dizzy. I hammer the side of his face. Snap. Snap. Snap. His head flies back over and over, bouncing and bending like rubbery taffy.
I get to my feet and take a step back, my fists battered with blood.
He staggers. Back and forth.
Blood trickles down his face. His hands are still up, though, so he’s not done.
He’s a fighter, after all.
I have to hand it to him…
He’s tough.
A roar escapes his lips as he rushes me. He punches once, I maneuver, and he misses. He punches twice, and I duck. He misses. I hit him in the side, a crack of his ribs crushing against my knuckles.
But then just as my hand connects, so does his…
