I fight back tears.

I need to get out.

I need to win.

If I can escape, and they’re distracted fighting someone else, I can get to…her.

It might be an equal battle of wits…

But I know I can take Madam Rosa hand to hand.

I want to get lucky. I want the ropes to fall to the floor… but no matter how much I tug, no matter how much I rub, all that seems to happen is my wrists bleed more and more.…

I just wonder what’s on the other side of the door.

The other side can be anyone…

I have no idea what sort of enemies the bitch has made.

I have to face the fact that whatever is on the other side of the door… may be something far worse than what I’ve already been through.

I get my feet free and pull myself to a stand. My legs are stiff. I wobble. There’s no telling how long I’ve been sitting there.

I move my hand to my head, realizing my head was still bleeding. It hurt…but not as badly as my ribs. I begin to pace. I feel lightheaded. I’m going to pass back out soon.

I inch to the door again.

I don’t have a choice. I need to get out of here.

I’m quiet…

Quiet as a mouse. I put my ear against the door and when I finally hear a sound, I jump. It’s a gunshot. Another one.

I need to get to a gun myself… There’d be no stopping me if I could get my hands on one.

“What the fuck is going on!?” I scream out a warning. “I’m armed!” Whoever it is, needs to know I’m just as dangerous as the Giordio’s are…

“Aria!” A familiar voice calls.

And that’s when I see him, come into view as he skids over to me on his knees. “Are you okay?!” He yells.

Did he just ride in here to save the day?

He caresses my cheek and I pull away. It stings.

“Broken ribs, concussion…” I manage as I try to stand. The pain in my side is excruciating. “But nothing I can’t walk off…” I reassure with a grin. I wasn’t going to let anyone think Madam Rosa had gotten the best of me.

She hadn’t.

But I sure as hell am ready to fight.

“Shit…” he whispers, gently grabbing my arms. “Your wrists…”

I laugh and pull my hands away to try to stand.Pain radiates across my body in heated bursts. I dig down deep to pull out enough energy to get to my knees. He grabs my arm and slings it over his shoulder.

I clutch my side to steady myself.

“Let me have your gun!” I demand.
