“Fuck you, Killian O’Sullivan.”

I frown at her. “Stop that.”

She hits again, punching my bicep this time. I quickly grab her wrists, pulling her over into my lap to get her to stop.

“You keep doing that and it’ll turn me on,” I say this through tight lips.

Tears prickle at her eyes again. “I wish we’d never met. Fuck you for ever putting your hands on me.”

I have to say, I’m proud of her for standing up to me like this and for holding her tears back long enough to curse me out. Too bad I’m too flustered to do anything about it.

“To think I almost—”

I narrow my eyes at her. “Almost what?”

She shakes her head, jerking at her wrists. “Does my brother think the same as my dad?”

“He didn’t say anything when your own father called you a whore, I’ll tell you that much.”

She winces, her bottom lip trembling from holding back whatever emotions are threatening to take her under.

She lets out a slow breath and fixes me with a hard look. “The moment you let your guard down, I’m going to put the knife you fucked me with straight through your heart.”

My heart thumps hard in my chest. I tighten my hold on her wrists.

“I hate you,” she says, spitting out the words. “I hate you from the depths of my heart.”

I let a cruel smirk stretch across my face. Letting go of one of her wrists, I unclip the hunting knife that I always carry with me wherever I go. I turn it in my hand, shoving the hilt of it into Nella’s palm and grab her wrist again. I guide it directly to the center of my chest and hold it there.

Above me, Leo mewls.

Nella stares down at the blade pressed against my chest; her eyes wide and red-rimmed.

“Well?” I press the knife into my chest, feeling the sharp edge of it poke through my shirt. “Go on, then. Make good on your promise.”

I feel her hands shake—adrenaline or fear racing through her, I can’t tell. Her gaze is deadly serious, and it’s a look I haven’t seen since I saw myself in the mirror this morning.

Her lips thin out, turning white from the force of her trying to hold back whatever she wants to say to me.

I feel the knife cut into my skin when she bares weight on it. I hold in a wince, feeling blood trickle down to my stomach underneath my shirt.

“I hate you,” she whispers as a single tear drips down her cheek.

Leo mewls again. From far away, I can hear a door opening and then footsteps.

“What the hell are you two doing?!”

Out of the corner of my eye, I see Ava coming around the side of the sectional.

“Getoffhim.”

Neither of us move.

“Killian, stop!” Ava’s tone is serious. “You’ve taken this too far.”

“Get out,” I tell her.

“Killian—”
