“Does this mean you’re talking to me now?”

I shrug at him, not being able to help the small smile that works itself onto my face. I can’t help but feel myself fall back into his touch. Getting wrapped up in his words and how he looks at me like I’m the only person in the room.

He leans forward, ghosting his lips over mine while he says, “I missed you.”

My heart kicks up at the confession.

“Can you two get out of my damn lab with that shit?”

Killian smirks and stands, pulling me up gently and letting me lean into him while he escorts me out. I hand Ava back her ice pack, thanking her. She waves a hand at me, shooing us both out before firmly closing the door behind us the second we both step out into the hall.

I look back at the door and snort to myself.

“Is she always like that?”

Killian’s arm wraps around my waist, pulling me flush into his chest. He moves his lips down my neck, peppering my skin with soft kisses.

“Usually.”

I can’t help but tilt my chin to the side, giving him more access. I have to admit, I had been sad when the love bite he’d given me while we’d had sex had faded, leaving absolutely nothing behind except its memory.

He pulls back from my neck. “I want to take you out.”

I tilt my head back in surprise. “Really?”

He nods at me, stroking the back of his hand over my cheek. “I need to take Ava somewhere first, but tonight I want to go out with you. A night on the town. Just you and me.”

I can’t help the thrill that shoots through me at the thought of finally being able to leave this townhouse, even if it’s just for a night.

“You aren’t mad at me?”

He laughs. “Oh, I am, but we’ll deal with that later.”

He grips my ass in his hand, patting the cheek gently before giving me a wink.

CHAPTERSIXTEEN

Killian takes me out to the Emerald Quarter, towards the south side of Chicago in the heart of Irish turf.

It’s a beautiful part of the city that I never go out to often. Mostly because my family’s businesses were located on the opposite side, down in the heart of where dark alleyways meet skyscrapers.

By the time our food arrives, I’m starving, having barely eaten since our fight the other night. I hadn’t had any kind of appetite since then, but now that food had been put down in front of me, I can’t help but scarf it all down.

Killian orders dish after dish, telling me that he would keep doing so until I screamed for mercy.

At first, it makes me laugh. How much food could he possibly order? But by the time the fourth entree rolls out of the kitchen, I knew that he had been absolutely serious. I eat as much as I can, stuffing myself until I feel like I’m ready to burst.

When Killian grabs the menu for dessert, I stand and tell him that I need to use the restroom quickly before he decides to order that entire side of the menu too.

He laughs at me, telling me to hurry back before looking down at his menu again.

It makes me shake my head at him. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say he’s trying to fill me up enough to where I can hardly move. Therefore, trying to escape again will be out of the question.

But maybe that’s just my own devious mind working overtime.

The restaurant is beautiful with ornate gold fixtures and soft lighting that makes the entire place feel regal and intimate. I have no idea how Killian had gotten us into such a nice place in such a short amount of time, but I’m not complaining. Not only is the atmosphere nice, but the food has been amazing so far as well.

I push open the door to the restroom and head over to the mirror. I need to splash some cool water on my face and let my stomach settle for a moment before I head back out there. I grab a few paper towels and wet them under the faucet, gently pressing the cool cloth over my face.
