“We have to leave, Roman, we aren’t safe in Verona anymore. They will have both our lives for killing Paul.”

“I killed him, not you. You’ll be fine.”

“No,” she said, putting her hand on my leg. I felt the nerves in my leg jolt to life at the simple touch. “We go down together if it comes to that.”

Something was happening to me, my chest was becoming tight. I’d never felt that before. I looked back at the road ahead before I did something stupid like run out of Verona with her.

I had responsibilities here. I had a life here.

I didn’t fucking run from anything.

My men would never forgive me. My mother would be torn apart and my father would…well, fuck my father. I couldn’t leave without squaring things off with Gunnar.

Plans of taking over Verona, fully, had flown out the window when I saw the way Paul was touching my woman.

I finally had her.

The fun was in the chase, right? Well, not exactly. I’d never wanted to keep seeing a woman, I’d never wanted to run away with a woman before. One thing I knew for sure, she was the most beautiful woman I had ever laid eyes on.

And she was all mine.

I pulled into the underground garage to the lake house my father had bought for my mother before she realized she didn’t like serenity so much. The house had sat empty since. I came here from time to time to get away from a beating I’d endured at the hands of my father but it had been a long time since.

“What is this place?” she asked. “It’s close to the city line.”

I could see the fear on her face. What had that bastard done to her?

“I know, but it’s still our side, don’t worry. It’s a lakehouse my family owns but no one comes here.”

She nodded, but I could see she didn’t relax at all. I’d never seen her scared, she’d always been so confident when we had been together.

The thoughts ran through my mind. I didn’t know her at all, and yet I was willing to stake my life in order to protect her. And if it came to it, I knew I would offer my life for hers.

The feeling was unsettling and yet so natural to me. Jolie was my number one priority now.

I opened the door from the garage and led her through the house, showing her the rooms she would need.

“Wow,” she said, looking out the windows at the ocean outside. “This is beautiful.”

“It sure is,” I said as I looked over at her from the kitchen. My eyes traced the feminine lines of her neck, down to her chest where that leather contraption clung to her like a second skin. My cock was stirring behind my jeans. I’d come so hard earlier I didn’t think it could be possible my balls would have anything left in them. She smiled over at me and joined me in the kitchen.

“So, I suppose we should talk,” she said. “This is always the hard part, right?”

“Have much experience in this area?” I asked her, wanting to know and somehow not wanting to know at the same time.

“Not a lot,” she told me. “Actually, I have no experience with what happens next.”

“You were not a virgin,” I told her, matter of factly. “I would have felt that.”

“That’s true,” I said. “I don’t think many eighteen year olds are these days.”

I felt a smirk erupt on my face at that. “True.”

“I’ve been at school for the past four years, I learnt a lot in those four years. Let’s leave it at that. I sure as hell don’t want to know about your past.”

I wouldn’t have told her anyway. I may have a reputation but I would never tell anyone about the women I had been with. Especially not what I was into.

Rose had brought out a side of me sexually that I knew I couldn’t put back in the bottle. Yet, I knew already that if Jolie wasn’t into it, I would put a cork in that fantasy and be what she needed. What she wanted.
