“Leave him,” I said. “But we do need to go down and get rid of his driver. If Edward finds out about him not showing up, all hell will break loose.”

Roman nodded. He moved over to Tyler’s lifeless body and dragged it under my bed, grabbing his holster first.

“You need clothes,” I said. “Let me go down the hall and grab some for you. Then we can go.”

“You sure?”

“Yeah,” I said. “I can’t wait to show you what I got on them so far.”

I laughed as I left the room, grabbing my robe on the way. This was going to be the last time I ever had to lay down my life for my father.

The last time I was going to come back into his house and live like an entitled princess with no title.

I was finally free.

Roman

I looked over at the woman of my dreams as she sat in the passenger seat of the town car we had liberated from the guy sent to courier Tyler over the city line and out of Verona. His body was laying in a trash heap on the outskirts while we headed back to the church. Enzo would be worried about me. I hadn’t told him I was leaving to go and see Jolie.

But that trip turned out to be the best thing I could have ever done.

“What?” she asked as she looked over at me, that sly smile that had won me over weeks ago showing defiantly on her face.

“You’re lucky that I’m driving or I’d wipe that smile off your face.”

She chuckled. “You don’t scare me.”

I pulled into the parking lot of the church and took her inside, through the Moreno side. As her fingers slid in through mine, I felt a sudden jolt of electricity.

Strike me down now, God.

I will never give this woman up.

Not for anything.

My priorities had changed and I knew that was the reason why Gunnar had died. He hadn’t approved but I knew he understood the only thing that would make me change my plans was real love.

Love that stopped you in the street.

Love that made you think clearly for the first time in years.

“Enzo,” I called out. “I need to talk to you.”

I headed for his office. He was sitting at his desk, looking over the top of his glasses when we came in.

“What are you doing?” he asked me, getting up and closing the door to his office. “Are you crazy?”

“Look, I know you’ve already done a lot for us but I need to ask one more thing of you.”

He sighed, sitting back down, defeated. “What is it, Roman?”

“Marry us,” I said. “Here and now.”

Jolie’s hand tightened in mine. I’d not run this past her yet, but when the idea had come to me, I knew I needed it to happen. And it had to happen before we both died in what I could only assume would be a war.

“Are you sure?” Jolie asked, her voice soft.

“Yes, Roman, are you sure?” Enzo asked. “You’ve never been a forever kind of man and honestly, you and Jolie have only known each other a little while.”
