“Because it was my own goddamn right to,” I said, as I looked back at him. “Now look at what your greed and stupidity has done to Verona. It’s in chaos, the people are not safe anymore from you.”

“And you’re the one who’s going to save it?” he asked, a sneer on his face. He sat down in his chair, behind his entirely too big desk.

He still thought he was the one in power.

“I’ll defeat Marshall and rule over his city and the one we build next door.”

I smiled, knowing he had no clue that Marshall was dead by our hands. He had no idea what I was capable of and that’s what made my insides giddy. I was finally going to get one over on him, and he’d know it before he died.

At my hands.

“What are you smiling about?” he asked, annoyed.

Before I could answer, his door swung open and Rose marched in. She was completely surprised by me but she recovered quickly. As she turned to stand beside my father, she saw Roman behind me and her surprise was replaced with anger.

“Uncle, are you all right?” she asked, looking down at him. “There are reports of people coming here to attack us.”

“Take one of the cars, Rose, and flee.”

“Are you sure?” she asked, looking at me then at Roman. “Should I call for someone?”

To his credit he declined the offer for help. He still thought he’d get away from this, that I wouldn’t do what I came here to do.

She stepped away from the desk and started to leave, pausing as she got to me.

“You know he’s not going to be there for you. You’re the flavor of the month to him.”

I felt her fear as she looked into my eyes. She wanted to hurt me because I’d hurt her but she had no idea how damaged I really was.

“No, dear cuz, you simply weren’t enough for him.”

I felt Roman come up behind me. “Now run along, little rabbit.”

She looked at Roman, the hurt in her eyes was clear. My entire life she had competed with me, for the affection of my mother, and then my father, because her own parents didn’t want anything to do with her. She even hated how close to Tyler I was.

She was a jealous little bitch with nothing to her name, and no one to love her. She was pathetic and I was only just starting to see how pathetic right now as the tears swept down her cheeks.

She looked back at me, the tears beginning to pool in her eyes. “You’re not enough for him.”

“She’s the only one who is,” Roman said as he aimed his gun at her head and pulled the trigger. The loud ringing in my ear was intense, making them throb. My father ran to Rose’s lifeless body, before he looked up at me.

“She was your family,” he said, in disbelief.

“As was Tyler but I took great pleasure in ending his existence, too,” I said to him.

“You killed Tyler?”

“Yes, he killed Gunnar. It was the only way out for him, when you think about it.”

“That was not your decision to make.”

“Please, I know you had every intention of having him taken out by his assassin driver. He spilled every bean possible when we had a gun against his head. We know everything you planned on having done the last couple of days.”

His face dropped.

He hated people having the upper hand. It felt so good to have this over him. It felt like the years of torture at St Augustine’s was leading to this chance, right here and right now.

I put the gun against his temple, and watched his bottom lip tremble. He was trying to keep it together but with the threat of a gun against your head, there really was no way to feel powerful. My chest heaved with excitement.
