“And you didn’t explode into flames as a sinner on your first visit?” Dad joked.

Mom groaned while Paul and I laughed.

“So, any more plans to turn our lives upside down, Paul?” Dad asked. “I’m being massaged, forced to do mindfulness, and eat healthily. That is, of course, when I’m not lost inside this mansion.”

“I’ll make sure you get a map,” Paul joked.

Dad chuckled. “Funny. The vacation is good, but you know me. I miss home. However, I want to thank you personally for helping the manufacturing plant’s families…and thank you for helping give me more time with my lovely wife and my sweet daughter. I love them more than words can say.” He choked up.

My eyes stung, and I swallowed hard. “I love you, Daddy. I love you, Mom.”

Mom’s eyes shone and she blew me a kiss.

“You’re welcome,” Paul replied softly as he rubbed my back.

My phone buzzed in my jumpsuit pocket, and I pulled it out. “It’s Xander,” I announced.

“Tell him Dad and I miss him,” Mom said in an upbeat tone. “He’s so talented.”

“He is,” Paul agreed. “How are you two enjoying Texas?”

“We’re going to the space museum later this week. I just mentioned wanting to know what it feels like being weightless to Ben, and he set it all up. Well, you set it up. Thank you.”

“You’re very welcome, Darek. I hope you enjoy it,” Paul said, and it was so weird hearing him call my dad Darek, but my chest fluttered with joy.

Dad grinned at Paul and shifted his gaze between us. “So, when are you going to make an honest woman of my daughter?”

I groaned. “Dad, stop.”

Paul laughed. “Nadia is already honest.”

Mom and Dad both laughed at Paul’s joke and my tension eased. I was about to put my phone away and read Xander’s message later, when I noticed that he had seen us singing and dancing today.

Xander: You sung Woodstock today? Gurrrrl. Chills over here! Are you and Paul rehearsing a live performance? Your dance was cute. But you were all over the man. Damn girl. Hotttt! Paul looks damn smitten. Please have a destination wedding.

They all gazed expectantly at me.

“Xander says I’m singing and dancing online. From after your rehearsal when I sung Woodstock.”

“Oh, I want to see it,” Mom enthused.

“Me, too,” Dad added. “That’s one of my favorites.”

There was a video of us, and it even had me jumping in Paul’s arms and him carrying me away on his shoulder. I loved it. But then I saw the trending topics.

Justus Black’s daughter

Each trending topic I clicked had memes and videos. Some were making fun of me with thousands of likes. But that wasn’t what hurt me the most. It was the top post.

Tomlivesbetter: She has the nerve to sing Justus Black’s signature song Woodstock. She wants daddy’s attention and money. Nothing groundbreaking here folks. (609)

Justus Black’s Daughter? My dad is Darek Sokol. He’s sick and this will crush him.
