“That’s all for now, thank you,” Paul announced. He kept his hand in mine, which was now damp with nerves, but we made it into the waiting limo. We hadn’t pulled off, but security moved the press away from the area. I took the moment to search for us online.

Nadia Sokol and Paul Crane in Love: Let’s look at their beginning in Paris.

I swooned at the images that followed. He’d been so passionate, and I’d been so captivated by him.

The other alerts popped up.

My stomach soured.

Paul was smiling at something on his phone. “Did you dance with Xander last night?”

I lowered my brows. “Yes. After the show.”

I looked over at his phone and saw the video from the fashion show. Xander and I were laughing and doing the tango. It had been fun, but then he scrolled down to the comments.

Liv321: This relationship will last as long as this took to type. (210 likes)

XD Magazine: I thought this was a fashion show. She has no style. (443 likes)

WomenRuleTheWorld2022: Your jealousies are showing. Nadia’s got the man and the bag. All you got is stupid comments on social media. (558 likes)

RoccoBlue: No class. (386 likes)

Gio23: Sexy. Damn, Paul Crane always gets the bangers. (422 likes)

I hunched my shoulders and stared down at my shaking hands. Paul touched my warm face. “Not all of the comments were bad. You can’t let the hateful people get to you.”

I frowned and Paul took my phone from me. “Don’t let strangers ruin your day. This is exactly what I was telling you. It will get so much worse.”

I wasn’t oblivious to social media shaming and the paparazzi printing whatever they wanted. Did I hate to be judged so harshly? Of course. How will this affect my design career? It’s only started. But most importantly I hoped none of this would blow back on my parents. They did not need that added stress.

“Carlos is here,” Laurence announced.

Paul took my hand, and we left the limo. I gazed at him puzzled as we walked over to a man in a suit who greeted him warmly. “Mr. Crane. Your car is ready for you.”

We walked over to a stunning blue Ferrari. Laurence walked next to me and let out a low whistle. “A Ferrari 812 Superfast. It’s a fierce beauty. Goes zero to sixty in two point eight seconds.” The long-slanted hood, pristine blue luxury two-seater.

I turned to him puzzled. “You’re not driving?”

Laurence shook his head. “I’ll meet you both at the….” He closed his mouth and wagged his finger playfully. “You almost made me ruin your surprise.”

“Oh, come on Laurence, give me a hint?” I mused.

He grinned broadly. “No can do, Nadia. I won’t ruin Paul’s enjoyment at seeing your reaction.”

“That’s right, Laurence.” Paul removed his jacket and Laurence opened the trunk. He placed my handbag and coat there. “See you soon.” He patted Laurence on the back and grinned. Laurence winked at me and headed for a helicopter.

Then he opened the car door for me, and I climbed in. The leather seats were a warm red tone that molded to my body and was more comfortable than I imagined. The close interior space felt intimate. It was luxurious, and Paul was the devastatingly handsome Prince sweeping me away. I was in awe.

Paul leaned across the seat and kissed me hard on the lips. “Mi sono persa nei tuoi occhi. I’m in your eyes, Nadia. The light in you will bring Rome to life for me.”

The road shifted like a slithering snake across the sand, twisting, and winding, as Paul weaved the Ferrari through heart-pounding loops of cars, buses, and Vespas along the narrow path carved out of the mountain. On my side, I could see down the side of the cliff, white yachts, speed and sailboats rushing across the sparkling blue waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea.

“Feel it, Nadia,” Paul called out as he sent my heart soaring at another hairpin turn. He appeared years younger when he smiled. It was a lightness I’d once seen on his face in his photos with Aubrey. My heart thrummed hard in my chest. And I fed off his assuredness on every moving part. He drove fearlessly, in complete command of the road and his surroundings. His reaction and anticipation were a wonder to behold. I was fascinated at his strength, though my pulse roared in my ears. I wanted to close my eyes, but then I didn’t want to miss a thing. And there was so much to see as we passed through terraced hillsides, with stucco, stone, and terracotta houses of pink, yellow, and orange hues decorating the steep rocky slopes. I was caught up in the danger, caught up in him.
