It took all my power not to push her onto the bed.

While lost in her beauty, an idea suddenly came knocking that I could use the footage to blackmail Crisp into stopping his marriage. That would leave us free to continue exploring each other.

“Your grandmother wants me to stake out the place.”

Her smooth white forehead creased. “Oh? And have you seen anything of interest?”

I nodded slowly. “I might have a way out for us. And it won’t involve blood.”

She hugged me. “I’m already missing you.”

We kissed as though it were midnight, then I left, hatching a plan as I ran down the servants’ stairs to the back exit.

Iworkedthedoorat the casino, as usual, and saw little, only Alec and Goran walking through the back door with Natalia. One didn’t have to be a mastermind to know Crisp was screwing her. At least Manon’s statement about him only wanting to marry her as a way into the family rang true. It also meant that he didn’t have his slippery hands all over Manon. Yet.

I planned to make sure that never happened.

After finishing my shift, I knocked on Crisp’s door, and took a breath while channelling my inner tough street guy. Having grown up around kids who carried knives instead of schoolbooks, I knew how to flex my muscles when needed.

It was all about survival.

And I wanted Manon all for myself.

She was a fucking mess, and she needed help. Those cuts on her legs disturbed me to no end. If nothing else, I wanted desperately to help her stop self-harming.

My dick rarely went down around her, but it was more than sex. I couldn’t abandon her even if I tried. I’d already done that and failed.

“Come in,” he said.

I entered, and Natalia sat on the edge of his desk, doing up her buttons.

“Have you got a minute?” I glanced at Natalia. “And can we talk in private?”

He wiggled his fingers for her to leave, and she sashayed off.

He leaned back in his chair. “So, what can I do for you?”

“I’m still seeing Manon, despite your demands.”

His eyebrows rose. “She means that much to you?”

I nodded. “She wants to be with me, too.”

“I see.” He kept staring at me for a long time. “Girls like Manon don’t hang around, you realise. She needs lots of money to be happy. The first few months of lust can obscure logic. It doesn’t last.”

“Thanks for the advice. But I’m sure we’ll figure it out,” I said.

His piercing stare made it difficult to continue looking at him.

“I must admit, it surprised me when you asked to return. I could only imagine Caroline or one of the Lovechildes put you up to it. Am I right?”

My leg muscles tensed. “No. I thought I could do without Manon, but I’ve since realised that’s not possible. And she doesn’t want to marry you.”

His thin mouth formed a slow smirk. “I think she should be the one telling me that, don’t you?”

“I’m telling you.” I sat up, ignoring his smug act. “We’re in love.”

“Oh, how sweet, young love. Nothing much ever comes from it, however. And what are you going to do when she runs out of that five-million-pound inheritance? Do you think Caroline Lovechilde will keep dishing out cash?”
