The next morningI woke up feeling lighter about going into the office. Not as though Leo and I would start chatting about our days and grabbing coffee together, but I hoped yesterday was the start of a new chapter. One where I did my job and knew even if he didn’t verbally give praise, he appreciated it.

Yawning, I stepped into the bathroom and shrieked at the sight of a naked man getting out of the shower. But, no. It couldn’t have been a random hookup of Malorie’s. Instead, it had to be my co-worker, Craig.

He quickly covered himself with a towel, but not before I’d gotten a good eyeful. Backing out of the small space, I ran straight into Malorie who must’ve run over upon hearing my scream.

“So sorry, Addy,” Craig apologized, now with a towel around his trim waist. If this entire situation didn’t have my cheeks on fire, I might’ve appreciated how nice of a body he had.

“It’s all right. Just unexpected. Uh, I’ll give you a minute to finish in here.”

I retreated to my room, but as soon as I shut the door, Malorie came inside. “Sorry.”

“It’s fine. I, uh, take it things are going well with Craig?” There was no good way to say I’d heard their headboard banging against the wall and their collective moans last night. But I’d assumed he’d left shortly afterward, never imagining he’d spend the night. And knowing Malorie, I couldn’t have been certain the man I’d heard her with had been Craig.

A dreamy expression took hold of Malorie’s face, one I’d never seen her wear regarding a guy. “He’s really great.”

Huh. Well, that was unexpected news.

“Hey, ladies. The bathroom is free now,” Craig called out.

After my shower, I came out to find the lovebirds kissing in the kitchen. Talk about feeling like an intruder.

Craig noticed me first. “Hey, Addy, sorry again about this morning.”

So I’d seen my co-worker’s penis, which was larger than average and hung slightly to the left, and he was sleeping with my cousin. “It’s fine. Really.”

“You coming out to the Angry Rooster tonight?” He took a sip of his coffee.

“Actually, I have a date.” It had been over a month since my last disaster, but hopefully the exercise would be like riding a bike. A bike that didn’t end up injuring my date this time around.

Malorie grinned. “It’s a first date with a guy she met online.”

We’d traded a few messages, and he seemed nice enough. Looked cute from his pictures. His name was Tate, and he was a hotel manager who’d lived here for two years. He said he didn’t like the party scene, loved good food, and seemed funny enough via messages.

It certainly couldn’t go any worse than my last two dates.

ChapterTen

LEO

Addison wore a black wrap dress on Friday, and fuck if I didn’t notice the way it hugged her hips and showed off her legs. She hadn’t worn anything other than jeans since her first day, so the change in wardrobe had me curious.

She’d also curled her hair and was wearing more makeup than usual. By afternoon, and because we’d established a truce, I couldn’t help trying to allay my curiosity.

I found her in the supply room unloading some boxes of paper. “What’s the deal?” I asked.

“What do you mean?”

It was none of my business. I didn’t care. But I did. “The dress and stuff.”

She chuckled. “Clearly, I’ve been looking like a bum at work if no less than seven people have asked why I’m dressing nicer than usual.”

Of course, the other guys would notice. “Guess I’m just making sure you’re not off to interview some place else.” The accusation wasn’t completely off base. Yesterday’s Christmas décor shopping might not have been enough of an apology.

“Don’t worry, no interviews. I have a date tonight after work. And since it’s for dinner at a restaurant on the strip, where there’s serious traffic on a Friday night, I don’t have time to go home and change.”

Jealousy was a foreign emotion to me, but there was no mistaking its presence. “Someone from the office?”

“Absolutely not. Bad enough I saw Craig naked in the shower this morning. Don’t need any more awkwardness.”
