“Why do you think? I’m nervous.”

“Don’t be.”

My eyes rolled. “And just like that, I’m not. Wow. Thank you for supplying the magic key to eliminate my anxiety over meeting your family.”

“Your sarcasm only proves you’ll be fine. Heard from Craig this morning. Evidently he and Malorie are back together.”

I’d received the same sort of text from Malorie. They’d been talking and seemed to have worked through things. Malorie had even used the L-word, a huge step for her. “I’m happy for them. So who will I be meeting today?”

“Just the immediate family. My mom, dad, Gabriel, and his daughter, Samantha. You’ve already met Nic of course, but now you’ll be able to meet his girlfriend, Kelsey.”

Considering how crazy Dominic was about her, I couldn’t wait to meet her.

A boyfriend would’ve taken my hand. Maybe kissed my wrist or temple to say it would be fine. But this wasn’t that situation. Which begged the question. “What, um, are we telling your family?”

“We don’t need to tell them anything.”

I threw my hands up. Obviously, we should’ve had this conversation before we were two miles away. “While you might have the luxury of grunting or shrugging or simply arching a brow when they ask you questions, I do not possess the ‘don’t fucking ask me anything’ face.”

He chuckled. “Let’s tell them we’re dating or whatever.”

“You told Dominic?”

He kept his eyes fixed on the road. “Not yet.”

“So he’s discovering two people he works with, one of which is his brother, are dating at the same time as everyone else?”

“Nic doesn’t have the ability to stay angry.”

This man was going to drive me insane. “I’ve changed my mind about meeting your family. Drop me off at a hotel.”

“No.”

“What did you say?”

He huffed. “I said no. Buck up and deal with your nerves. I already told my mom you’re coming.”

“It’s not my nerves which have me changing my mind. It’s you now being on them.”

He pulled past a gated driveway, and the vision of the large house coming into view had me swallowing hard. My parents were more than comfortable, with their own single-family home and two sedans in the driveway, but this was a new level of money.

“Your parents are rich?” Suddenly I felt way underdressed and underprepared. I’d had no idea. Oh, sure, Leo had obviously done okay for himself given his beautiful home, but with his military background and bare-bones truck, I’d assumed he came from a more modest background.

Color bled into his cheeks. “My parents have money, yes.”

I glanced down at my Target dress. “I should’ve worn something nicer.”

“You look fine.”

It was too late now. Other than this outfit, I’d only packed jeans.

After parking his truck, he picked up his phone and began typing furiously. “I’m texting Dominic that we’re now dating, and you’re the woman I’m bringing today. Okay?”

My fingers pinched the bridge of my nose, trying to ward off the impending headache. Leave it to Leo to take what I’d said so literally.

His phone soon dinged with a reply.

“What did he say?”
