When I got to the kitchen, I found her bent over the stove, wiggling her ass and screeching the words to “Man in the Box.” Leaning against the doorjamb, I tracked her sexy movements as she swayed to the music, lost in her own little world.

“Oh, baby, you look good,” she cooed to the pan of nachos as she took them out and set them on the cutting board doing a little victory dance to celebrate.

“Do I have some competition I need to worry about?”

My quip caused her to spin around and press her hand to her chest. Then her lips curved up. “How do you feel about a threesome? You, me, the nachos.” The way she waggled her brows made me laugh out loud.

“With guacamole?”

“What are we, animals? Of course there’s guac. Here, taste.”

She lifted up a cheese-laden chip, dipped it into the chunky guac, and held it toward my face.

I crunched down on the chip. “Mm.”

“I knew you’d like them. How was your day?”

“Better now.”

She smiled. “Mine too.”

ChapterThirty-Eight

ADDISON

Ileft work and went by the grocery store, excited to be cooking dinner for Leo for a change. After putting the ingredients for chicken nachos into my cart, I paused in front of the feminine hygiene aisle, wondering if I needed to pick up tampons.

But wait, what was the date? Shouldn’t I have gotten my period by now?

Pulling out my phone, I checked my calendar, and realized it had been three weeks since I’d moved in with Leo, and I’d last had my period over a month ago. Which meant I was late.

How could I have gone from feeling so single-minded about baby-making to losing track of my period? Of course I’d been distracted in the very best way over the last few weeks with Leo. It was amazing how seamlessly we’d gotten into the routine of living together. All of my earlier misgivings about him getting weird over losing his private space were gone. Sometimes it felt as if we’d slid from an arrangement into a full-blown relationship.

Walking down the same aisle, but with a different purpose, I found a variety of pregnancy tests. I couldn’t wait to take one when I got home. Just in case, I bought a backup.

Once at the house, I dropped the groceries in the kitchen and took one of the tests into the bathroom. I combed over the instructions, peed on the stick, and place the test up on the bathroom vanity while I waited the ten minutes.

I’d expected it to show negative. Hell, the directions had indicated best results would be in the morning. So as I sat there, I gave myself a pep talk about how it was still early in our lives, and we had plenty of time to keep trying. But when I peeked at the test strip, there were two pink lines.

“Holy shit.” Tears welled up in my eyes. My dream was finally coming true. I was pregnant. It was real. It was happening. We were having a baby.

And I couldn’t wait to tell Leo.

Later that evening while I dished up our dinner of chicken nachos on the kitchen table, Leo went to the fridge for drinks. “You want a beer?”

I grinned, thinking this was the perfect opportunity. “Nope. No more alcohol for me. At least in the short term.”

He frowned. “Don’t even tell me you’re thinking about low-carbing it.”

“Nope. Not the reason.”

Both his brows shot up. “Are you?”

A grin slid over my lips. “Pregnant. Yes.”

He came over and swept me off my feet, swinging me around before abruptly putting me back down. “I wasn’t thinking, throwing you around like that. How are you feeling? When did you find out? I completely lost track of your cycle.”

I wouldn’t mention it to him now, but I liked the idea of being so absorbed in our cohabitation we’d both forgotten. “I took the test when I got home from the grocery store, where I realized my period was late. And I feel fine so far. I’ll make an appointment to get a blood test, but those two lines were pretty distinct.”
