I’d talked to him a couple times, but mostly we’d texted due to the time difference and the crazy hours he was working. “Yeah, he’s anxious to get home, though.”

As if he knew we were talking about him, his number came up along with my FaceTime ringtone.

“Speak of the devil,” Nic quipped and held out his hand for my phone.

I had to laugh at the way he picked up. “Bet you didn’t think to see my pretty face when you called.”

Leo chuckled. “Good thing you’re so humble about your looks, little brother. Where’s Addy?”

“She’s right here. Was saying how she enjoys getting the entire bed to herself with you gone this week.”

Dominic clearly had no clue how off he was.

“Yeah, yeah. You tell her about the promotion yet?”

Dominic rolled his eyes. “Dude, what if I hadn’t, and this is how she heard about it?”

“Then I’d say that’s on you for waiting so long to talk to her. Can you put her on?”

“Sure thing.”

He handed me my phone and left me alone in his office for some privacy.

“Hi there,” I whispered, taking in Leo’s handsome face on the screen. He looked tired.

“Hi. I have some bad news.”

“What is it?”

“They had a security breach in Chance’s club in Barcelona, so he’s asked for me to travel over there with him and stay on a few more days to help investigate. But I can tell him no if you need me?”

He almost sounded like he hoped I’d tell him to come home, but there was no way I’d be the reason they’d lose out on a lucrative contract and an opportunity for future business. “No, I’m doing fine. Truly.”

“You’re feeling okay?”

“Yeah, no adverse symptoms so far.” A blood test on Monday had confirmed my levels were good. Aside from feeling slightly more tired and experiencing a tenderness in my breasts, I was feeling fine so far in my first trimester of pregnancy.

“I hate having to postpone telling people about us, but we can spend all next week in San Diego and tell everyone then. Nic told you about the plans?”

“Yeah, I’m excited about the promotion and to see the new office.”

“You might not think so when you see what a cracker box it is. But if anyone can transform it, it’s you.”

I smiled at the way he believed in me. “Thank you. So when do you think you’ll be back?”

“Monday night at the latest. I’m sorry. I was looking forward to being home tomorrow.”

“Me too.”

“I’ve missed you.”

My heart beat double time at his admission. “I’ve missed you too.”

“I worry about you.”

“Remember you can always stalk my phone.”

“Mm, and stalk you with the house cameras.”
