“It actually suits you,” Jessie commented as he turned back to face me. His eyes twinkled mischievously. “Like the bed.” A smirk tugged at his lips, his eyes running over the rustic bed frame that the old man I rented from had given me. It had old iron bars, and I knew the ideas Jessie was getting in his head.

I laughed softly. “Head out of the gutter, Jessie,” I scolded him. He winked at me, making my stomach flutter. “You wanted to check my ribs, remember?”

He grunted and kicked his shoes off before he crawled onto the bed next to me. I laid down on my good side with a wince, allowing him to pull up my shirt so he could look at my side. “It’s already bruising,” he grumbled, displeasure lacing his voice. He ran his fingers over it, and I flinched, hissing a breath through my teeth. “I don’t think they’re broken, but we definitely need to ice them. You have ice?” he asked, flicking those dark eyes to mine.

I nodded and pointed to the freezer. “It’s not actually ice, but they’re the little fruit shapes that you can buy at the dollar store and freeze.”

Jessie shrugged as he eased off the bed, being careful not to jar my body. “They’ll work.” He moved toward my freezer and took them out. After searching through my cabinets, he placed the little frozen plastic fruits into a plastic bag. When he came back to the bed, he laid in front of me and placed the bag of ice on my side. I hissed a breath through my teeth at the coldness.

“I fucking missed you, baby girl,” Jessie said softly as he reached up and traced my jaw with the tips of his fingers. My eyes softened. “It took everything in me not to say fuck the shop and drive up here to be with you. I was terrified that you were going to ghost me again.”

I grabbed his hand in mine and laced my fingers through his. “Never again, Jessie,” I told him quietly. And I meant that. I couldn’t rip him out of my life again. I wouldn’t survive it.

He leaned forward and soothed his lips over mine. I moaned softly and tried to deepen the kiss, but he pulled back. “Not tonight, babe. You need to ice that side and get some rest,” he reminded me.

I huffed and rolled my eyes. Jessie grinned at me. “I forgot how cute you fucking are when you’re not getting your way.”

I narrowed my eyes at him, a silent warning that he was treading on thin ice. He laughed huskily, the sound warming my chest. “You’re too fucking cute for your own good, baby girl.”

“I am not cute,” I grumbled. If I wasn’t laying on my side, I’d cross my arms over my chest.

“Right now, you’re being cute,” Jessie argued. He ran his eyes over my body with darkened eyes that held a thousand sensual promises. My breath hitched in my throat. “But you’re always sexy as fuck, West. It’s taking everything in me to just lay here with you and not roll you onto your back and tongue fuck you,” he warned me.

I rolled my bottom lip between my teeth, biting back a moan at his sensual words. He quietly growled and reached forward to tug my bottom lip from between my teeth, soothing his thumb over the bite marks. “If you do that again, West, I will fuck you until all you’re capable of doing is laying here with that ice on your side.” I sucked in a sharp breath, wincing in pain after. “I’m trying to have a good day out with you tomorrow, and I can’t do that if your side is fucked. Please cooperate with me, baby.”

I smiled at him. “You want to take me out?” I asked him.

He laughed softly. “I just told you I basically want to fuck your brains out, and that’s all you got out of what I just said?” he asked.

I blushed. “Well…”

He laughed again as he shook his head. He leaned forward and pecked my lips. “So fucking adorable,” he rumbled. “But yes, babe, I want to take you out. I want to show you off—show everyone that you are mine. I’ve been waiting too fucking long to have you as mine to do anything but,” he told me honestly.

“You’re so perfect,” I blurted before I could stop myself.

He grinned at me as my cheeks tinted red. I covered my face with my hands, groaning at myself.

I had officially lost the filter between my brain and my mouth.

“Oh, baby, don’t hide from me,” Jessie quietly pleaded as he gently tugged my hands down from my face. “It’s nice to know that I’m not the only one so affected by everything between us. Don’t be embarrassed, baby girl.”
