But I couldn’t meet his gaze, not when I was a mess.

Your Moon, Your World

I was almosthome when a pinecone hit the back of my head. With my nose flaring, I spun around, cursing in Korean as Howli gave our intruder his best growl yet.

Keith emerged from behind a random avocado tree in our neighborhood, his lips curving into a smile as he lifted his hand to form a peace sign. “Mind if I join you on your night stroll?” he asked.

I glared at him from head to toe, internally judging his random appearance in the middle of nowhere as something iffy. He wore an all-black outfit and a pair of boots that looked heavier than a dumbbell. “I mind. Don’t follow me. I don’t trust you,” I said, turning around to keep on walking.

“It wasn’t my intention to follow you. I was with Cole and the rest of our gang earlier when you called,” he said from behind, his loud footsteps closing in on me. “He didn’t tell me what happened, but he asked me to wait for him at our hangout place. So then I waited patiently with my friends until I saw you passing by—”

“I don’t care,” I cut him off. “Stay away.”

“Are you sure?” He walked next to me. “Who is it this time? Cole? Gray?”

“Both,” I found myself responding, despite every failed attempt to avoid him.

“Are you confused who to choose?” Keith asked, his tone rather casual.

“Eh?” I pinched my eyebrows. “Do I look like I’m shopping between two different brands?”

He shrugged.

“I’mnot,” I emphasized, defensive. “I just—I feel bad about Cole, and I’m worried my su—”I shouldn’t tell him something too confidential, right?“…my connection with Gray isn’t enough.”

“Cole is fine, trust me. And as for you and Gray, if he makes you happy and you make him happy, what is there to worry about? As long as you see and value each other without ever judging, and it feels real, your connection is not only enough, but it can also move mountains!” He raised an arm in the air as if to describe the height of whatever mountain he had in mind. “And when it’s real, it never dies.”

I gaped at him, wondering where someone so excessively corny came from.

“Why are you even following me? Don’t you have bigger problems right now?” I suddenly recalled his last convo with Rainer. The murder, the werewolves, the admirer, and—

“I sure did,” he confirmed, smiling as if none of those were a big deal to him. “It’s not really as big as Rainer made it sound before. If you’re still wondering, Cole is a good guy. He wasn’t the admirer who killed my mom. Rainer was just trying to force us to fight.”

I came to a sudden halt and almost shouted, “He was talking about Cole?”

Keith paused, his expression slack. “Why are you so surprised? Didn’t you know?”

“He didn’t say a name. How would I know he was talking about Cole when you seem to have more than one boy hanging around you?” I asked as a matter-of-factly, considering he was in a group of werewolf hunters dominated by men.

“I guess you know now!”

“Wait a second.” I screwed up my eyes, trying to read into his. “So, you know about Cole being a werewolf?”

“Don’t you?” He tilted his head, seemingly overestimating me.

Maybe we could get along after all.

“Is that why you rejected him?” I asked.

“No, dude, I’m not racist.”

“But you hunt werewolves.”

“Not all of them,” he corrected me.

“Good to know. Then is it true that you like someone else? Or are you straight? I mean, you never came out. We all just assumed that you were gay.”

“Yes and no.” He blinked at me rapidly. “It’s a long story, so don’t ask.”
