Simon reached over and rubbed my forearm. “Cynthia’s your mom in every way that matters.”

“You’re right and I have to remember that when she’s being a pain in the ass.”

From the trees at the edge of the development the owl hooted again, and I wondered if it was lamenting the destruction of this tract of forest. When it fell quiet, I continued. “Still, very few people know this part of my family history, and Jacques told me one thing that Mom and D2 left out. Immediately after the accident, I was taken by Social Services and put into foster care for a couple of months. Sometimes I wonder if that’s why I’ve never really felt that I belonged anywhere. I’ve always been loved, but never felt part of any particular clan or tribe.”

Simon squeezed my hand. “Then it’s time for you to claim a place for yourself. A place with me.” He raised my hand to his mouth and licked the last of the apple juice from my palm. “Do you think we were meant to be together?”

“I do,” I said simply, grateful that he wasn’t quizzing me for why it had taken so long to share my story.

“Excellent. So now we’re going to find a place to live, one that suits both of us.” He waved at the razed land around us. “I apologize for not thinking this through better. I’ve been master of my own universe for so long, I’ve forgotten that I can’t act unilaterally anymore. And I’ve been more unfair than usual. I punished you for not consulting with me and I’ve gone and done the same thing myself. I apologize. Do you forgive me?”

“Always,” I said, slightly disconcerted by his contrition.

“How about we make a list of which part of the city we want to live in and what our ideal house will look like. Once that is settled, would that be a good time to set our wedding date?”

“Perfect.” I shivered and placed my empty glass on the table. “It’s cool out here after the humidity of Montreal. Do you think we could go now?”

“Of course.”

“One last thing, though.” I bit my lip, happy that he couldn’t see the red tide washing up my neck and over my face. “I’m really on edge and have been all week. I’ve been so tense at being separated from you, from worrying about my family, and trying not to reveal too much to Ronnie.”

“I understand.” He rubbed the back of my neck. “You want to go home. You’re tired.”

“I am. But I need a spanking before we go to bed, please.”

Simon

When Sadie asked for a spanking, my cock rose in a half salute. In this instance, her wish was my command.

I wanted to erase the error of my ill-considered impulse in buying that property without speaking to her or considering her needs. I was glad she’d asked for a spanking. Delivering it would release my tension too. She was right. Ihadbeen trying to impress her with my wealth, to imprison her with it, in a way. I’d hoped she’d soon want luxury the way so many people did, to the point that she would feel she couldn’t live without it. Knowing that she wanted less from me financially, rather than more, was the strongest declaration of love she could have made.

We picked up the food containers and camping furniture and packed the car in minutes. Then we said goodbye to that building site and headed down the mountain and to our Kitsilano penthouse.

Once we were in the elevator, I accessed our floor with a keycard and, in the next move, took the cotton blindfold from my pocket.

“Turn around,” I said.

Sadie lifted her chin and hesitated.

“Do I need to repeat myself?”

She turned to the corner and for the second time that night, I cloaked her from the outside world with a wide band of soft cotton. Inside the apartment, I stood her in the corner of the bedroom, tucking her hands behind her back.

“Don’t move a muscle. I’ll come and get you when I’m ready for you.” I kissed her neck.

I brought in her bags, the roses, and the remnants of food from the picnic. Relishing the sight of her standing there, quietly compliant, I walked in and out of the bedroom more times than I needed to. Once I crept up behind her, raised her skirt and pulled down her panties. She stepped out of them without being told.

“Good girl,” I whispered, my breath tickling her neck. I spun her to face me and licked one ear before grasping her waist and pressing her against me. When I stopped, she moaned quietly in protest but said nothing.

Less than a week ago I thought I’d lost her. When she said she couldn’t marry me, for a few chilling seconds, my world ended. I went blind, deaf, and stupid with dread.

Now she was back, and I would do everything in my power to convince her to stay, to reassure her of her rightful and cherished place in my life.

With the bed turned down, I took Sadie by the hand and guided her toward the big armchair in the opposite corner from where she stood.

“Now I’m going to spank you.”

“Thank you.”
