Her lips shushed me, and I held her face to mine. Holy shit. She scared me.

“You didn’t push me. I wanted to be close with you. That’s not the issue at all. Just not sure about going all the way. Seems so fast. Everything. How intense things are. You woke up only a couple of months ago. I can’t believe how intense I feel about you. Do you feel it, too?”

“Yep.”

“Is that normal?”

“I don’t know about you, but I’ve never felt like this before,” I said. “Seriously.”

“But you’ve had sex plenty of times.”

“Just messing around.”

“See, that, I thinkthat’swhat’s freaking me out a little. It’s—sex—is a big deal to me. As in, the Holy Grail of relationships. There’s no going back once that happens. A part of you is gone.”

“Never looked at it that way.” Not with a crack-whore mom who sold her body for drugs. I hadn’t met anyone in my entire life who looked at it that way.

“I sound stupid, don’t I?”

“Not stupid, just different, that’s all. And that’s not a bad thing!”

She laughed.

“Holy Grail, huh? You do love your movies, don’t you?”

“They were all I had for a long time. That’s what I did hanging out with you, too.” She kissed my chest and rested her head there.

Soft hair whisked along my bare skin, and I hugged her close. It was actually pretty cool lying here with her, semi-naked and talking.

Talk about surreal. I’d never done anything like this. As in ever.

Son of a bitch. I loved Lizzie. Didn’t I?

Craved her like no drug I’d ever been addicted to. Wanted her to feel good when I touched her, before even considering what I wanted. Needed to hear her voice almost as much as air to breathe.

“The sex-is-a-Holy-Grail thing freaked you out, didn’t it?” she whispered.

“No it didn’t. It’s all good, LizBelle.” She might have something to this whole Holy Grail viewpoint.

Question was, could I be that for her?

Chapter Forty-One

Lizzie

“Ican’tbelieveschoolstarts Monday.” I hiked up my backpack. “Me, in college.”

Sarah strolled through the hallway with me. “Pretty big step for ya, huh?”

“I’d say.” I pointed at the campus map, then to the right. “Bookstore’s this way.”

“I’m so posting this!” She held up her phone. “Little Lizzie’s first day of school.”

“Don’t you dare post that.” I pushed her shoulder. “You’re supposed to be here for moral support, not to razz me.”

“Why aren’t Damon and Mr. Magic here with ya?”

“Mobility training most of today. He has to make it to the bus stop from your house. Get on the right bus and to the hospital.”
