Athena kicks me from the inside and shifts, her bum sticking out at the top of my stomach. I place my hand on top of the bulge and rub my thumb back and forth, stroking until I’m sure she’s fallen back to sleep. Atlas’s little laugh sprinkles into the room like stardust and my

eyes close, a peaceful smile taking hold.

I can smell the salt of the Mediterranean Sea resting heavy on the breeze as it mixes with

the smoky scent of campfires from Holden’s barbeque. And though I’m exhausted from pregnancy and insanely uncomfortable, life has never been better.

There are cookies in the oven and there’s food on the grill. I have the unconditional love of my husband and the innocent, awestruck adoration of our son. Our baby girl is healthy and

growing inside of me and we’ve set up home in the country where I’ve always dreamed of

living.

We haven’t had it easy, Holden and I. But if I’ve learnt anything in all the years we’ve been together, it’s that our love is powerful enough to conquer anything, even the darkest secrets and the deepest scars.

And I know with every beat of my heart and fibre in my soul that no matter what happens, it will always be us in the end.
