But Brian is already shaking his head, eyes wide. “I can’t. It would ruin my family. My kids don’t deserve that. They shouldn’t have their lives destroyed because of something I did. Besides, what’s the point? The son died in that plane crash. It’s all ancient history now, there’s no use dragging it all up again.”

I can’t tell him that this new information could change everything for Sebastian.

“Do you have any proof?” I try, changing course. “Any way for me to verify what you’ve told me?”

He shakes his head. “I burned the original report, like Richard told me to. There’s nothing left.”

“Nothing but your word,” I remind him.

He shakes his head. “I’m sorry, I truly am, but I won’t put my family at risk.”

I sigh. As much as I hate it, I can understand where he’s coming from. And knowing that Richard is capable of murder…

“Thank you for your time,” I offer him, and then leave—empty-handed, but with my head spinning from these new revelations.

The brakes were deliberately cut, which means someone planned to kill Sebastian’s father.

Richard. His own brother. He murdered Patrick in cold blood. Out of what, jealousy, that he’d built a billion-dollar business and a happy family, while Richard’s own career stumbled?

Now, the way Richard moved in and took up with Sebastian’s mother makes a twisted kind of sense. He wanted to replace Patrick—in every way.

I think back over everything I’ve learned, and it all clicks into place. When he stepped in, and organized a cover-up after the accident, it wasn’t to protect Sebastian the way we all thought… It was to make sure his own crimes stayed hidden, forever.

And then once I publicly accused Sebastian, Richard had the bomb planted on the jet, to make sure I would never go digging any further.

I was just another loose end to him.

But what do I do now?

I need to find Sebastian. He has to know what really happened—and what Richard is capable of.

But he’s a ghost now. Disappeared, leaving no trace behind.

How can I possibly I contact him?

I puzzle over it all the way back into London. I check into a luxurious, low-key hotel off Bond Street, and wrack my brain for a way to reach Sebastian. He wouldn’t have told his family where he was going, and he doesn’t have many close friends—

Except there is someone I know Sebastian trusts more than anyone.

Enough to share me with him, during our filthy, illicit threesome.

Anthony St. Clair. Saint. His buddy from Oxford.

And I know just where I can find him.

I changeinto a chic black dress, and catch a car across the city, to the discreet club where Sebastian took me. It feels like a lifetime ago now, the way I followed him inside, full of anticipation and desire.

Now, I march calmly to the door, with a very different mission in mind. Sebastian said that Saint hangs out here often. I figure if I don’t see him, there’ll be someone who knows where he might be.

“Excuse me?” The woman minding the front desk steps to block my way. “Are you a member here?”

Shit.

“Umm, no…”

“Then I’m afraid I can’t give you access,” she says crisply. “This is a private establishment.”

Damn. I think fast.
