She walked over to the door and slid it open. Her eyes widened as she took in her wedding dress.

It had been shredded. Someone had ripped the dress apart and torn the lace. The gems spilled out, and glitter coated the ground.

NO! NO! God no!

She screamed! She felt it echo around her as she tumbled to her knees. If this wasn’t an act of hatred toward her, she didn’t know what was.

TWENTY-TWO

XANDER

Sitting in their private kitchen, he scanned the menu that Lexi and he had been talking about. They both wanted something simple but tasteful for their wedding. Nothing messy.

They had been working on it for a bit, but today they were finally going to pick out their final options.

He looked at the door, then down at his watch. Lexi was supposed to meet him ten minutes ago. She wasn’t someone who would keep him waiting.

He scanned back to the paper, his eyes scrolling over it. They were down to two main options. Lexi had strong feelings about both of them.

He sighed, rubbing his eyes. He turned toward a guard. “Can you find Lexi for me? I think she may have been caught up in some other work and forgot about our meeting here.”

The guard nodded and turned on his heel. When the guard left the room, he turned toward the chef.

“Which option do you think is more fitting?” Xander asked, showing him the paper.

The chef chuckled. “I don’t think I can pick one. Isn’t your bride supposed to do that?”

He nodded. “I have a feeling she’s occupied somewhere else.”

Suddenly an ear-piercing scream filled the area. His entire body shook, and every nerve in his body tensed.

He knew that voice. That was Lexi. She was in trouble.

He dropped the menu and was through the door in a second. He ran down the hallway with lightning speed and did the stairs two at a time.

When he got to the hallway of their bedroom suite, he could hear her yelling. “No! No! Why?”

He moved faster, throwing their bedroom door open. He heard it bounce off the wall, and he scanned the room.

Lexi stood in the middle of the room, clinging to her dress. Or what had once been her dress. It was no longer a recognizable garment.

There was fabric all over, shredded pieces trailing out of the closet. The closet looked like a bomb had exploded inside.

There were rhinestones and gems littering the room. He could see where she had dragged it out of the closet. She had left a trail as she went.

Lexi sobbed as she held the dress. Her entire body shook as she muttered, “Why? Why would anyone do this? Who would do such a cruel thing?”

It was clear what had happened. Someone had gotten their hands on Lexi’s dress and ruined it. Rage filled him, and he wanted to yell.

He wanted to march through the entire castle and demand to know who did this. He wanted to inflict a pain like no other on everyone. His wolf was barely containable.

He also knew that it wasn’t an option. He couldn’t do that. That wasn’t what a king did.

He couldn’t take out his anger on the entire castle because of one person’s stupid decision. And he had to remain calm for Lexi. She needed him to have a cool head.

She was going to blow her top if he didn’t say the right things. And he knew how hard she was trying to be the perfect queen. If she went storming through the castle in anger about her dress, it would backfire.

Remain calm. Think about what you’re going to say. This is a huge stab at her. Someone ruining her dress is a direct hit at her.
