“Thank you. I’m certain we’ll be fine.”

“Shall I have tea brought in, Ma’am?” Rebecca asked.

“Miss Honeycutt?” Elizabeth checked, looking at the newcomer.

“I’m more of a coffee girl myself.” Palmer raised a hand. “American. We had that whole Boston Tea Party thing, so we went with coffee as our national beverage.”

Elizabeth laughed at that and said, “Coffee, Rebecca?”

“Of course, Ma’am.” The woman nodded.

Rebecca and Thomas left them alone then, and the two guards remained for a moment longer, likely at the request of the security head.

“Miss Honeycutt, do you intend to harm me in any way today?”

“What? No,” Palmer replied. “I mean, no, Ma’am.”

“Gentlemen.” Elizabeth gave them the nod to go. “You may leave us. We’ll be fine on our own.”

The guards bowed and left the room, closing the door behind them.

“I apologize for the security,” she said, motioning for Palmer to sit.

“It’s fine. I get it. I didn’t mind the strip search.”

“The what?” Elizabeth asked, wide-eyed.

Palmer laughed as she continued to stand next to the chair.

“I’m kidding,” she replied. “Metal detectors and a light pat-down. I’ve had worse at the airport.”

“You scared me,” Elizabeth replied.

“Sorry, I thought it was funny.”

“You’re not sitting down,” Elizabeth noted.

“Neither are you.”

“You read the rules, didn’t you?” she asked.

“I did. Rebecca sent them to me.”

Elizabeth sighed and said, “Have a seat, Palmer.”

“Is that an order?”

“I’m notyourQueen,” Elizabeth replied. “Besides, these are customs, not laws. This is not an off-with-your-head type scenario.”

“Okay,” Palmer replied with a smile. “But if this is some sort of trick to make the American look like an idiot, I’m not going to be very happy.” She sat in the chair. “Elizabeth.”

Elizabeth sat down as well, gave the woman a polite smile, and asked, “Where do we start?”

“If you don’t mind, I’d like to ask a lot of questions that Icanfind the answers to on the internet. They may seem tedious, but unless I hear it from you, I’d like to avoid printing what other sources have already posted.”

“That is music to my ears, Palmer,” Elizabeth replied. “You are aware that I might decline to answer a question?”

“Sure.” Palmer shrugged a shoulder.
