“Oh, that?” Elin asked, shaking her head at herself.

“Yeah, that,” Palmer said, laughing a little.

“I’m in love with my private secretary.”

CHAPTER 5

“Hello, Ingrid,” Elizabeth said when she walked into the room.

“Your Majesty,” Ingrid greeted after standing and giving the Queen the customary nod.

“Elin told us you planned on visiting the springs,” Elizabeth continued as she sat down on the end of the bed in the guest room Ingrid had slept in the night before.

“She reserved some time for me yesterday, but I was unable to make it; too much work to do. It was very kind of her, though,” Ingrid replied.

“Well, I hope you don’t mind, but I took the liberty of asking the park service to give you the day today as well.”

“Your Majesty?”

“I’ve packed you and Elin a picnic lunch. I should warn you: the kids helped, so you’ll find your sandwiches are cut into star shapes.” Elizabeth smiled. “But they should taste just fine.”

“Ma’am, you didn’t have to do any of that. I’m perfectly comfortable here, and I do have work today. Her Highness didn’t tell me until we were already in flight about the springs. I didn’t even pack a suit or–”

“I think you’ll find Elin took care of that,” Elizabeth replied. “She wouldn’t have booked the springs for you and not made sure you had a suit to enjoy them in.” She stood up then.

Ingrid stood as well, as was the custom.

“Please, sit,” Elizabeth said with a kind smile. “And check your suitcase. Palmer and I will tell the children their Aunt Elin will go horseback riding with them another time.”

“Oh, I don’t want to ruin–”

“You’re not. Their Aunt Cami just arrived, and they’re very excited to go with her. They haven’t seen Palmer’s sister in a few months, so they’ll have plenty of fun. They’ll be asleep early tonight. Tomorrow, if Elin wants, she can have the whole day with them.”

“Are you sure?” Ingrid asked.

“Of course,” Elizabeth replied.

“What’s going on in here?” Palmer asked when she stopped in the open doorway.

“We were just chatting about Elin taking Ingrid to the hot springs today,” Elizabeth explained as she walked toward her wife.

“Oh, that will be fun,” Palmer noted, wrapping her arms around Elizabeth’s waist. “Cami is ready to take the kids.”

“Do you think she could go ahead with them, and we could join them for lunch?” Elizabeth suggested.

Ingrid couldn’t see Elizabeth’s face, but shecouldsee Palmer’s, and it was pretty clear what Palmer was picking up from her wife’s expression.

“Yeah?” she asked.

“Palmer,” Elizabeth said with exasperation in her tone.

“I’ll tell Cami they’re good to go.” Palmer looked at Ingrid. “Have fun at the springs. We’ll see you guys for dinner?”

“I’ll ask The Princess Royal,” Ingrid said.

“What are we all doing here?” Elin asked from somewhere behind where Palmer and Elizabeth were standing.

“Nothing. We were just about to leave. Have fun at the springs,” Palmer replied. “We’ll see you when you get back. Babe?”
