“Whataboutme?”

“What rumors have they spread about you?”

“Oh,I’mcurious about this one,” Ingrid said, turning toward Elin.

“Nothing. She’s the perfect daughter, Princess, and now, Queen,” Mari replied.

“You say perfect; I say boring,” Lillian added.

“Hey,” Elin said.

“What? It’s true. You’ve had no good rumors.”

“I think that’s a good thing,” Elin replied.

“Amalie is waiting downstairs. Can we head that way so Mom doesn’t yell at me?” Christian asked, hooking his thumb in the direction of the door.

“AmIallowed?” Sarah asked.

“Of course, you are,” Lillian said. “And it’s just the close family, so no need for the whole formality thing.”

“Are you sure?” Sarah asked.

“You’ll be family soon, right? Might as well get used to it now,” Mari replied, standing up.

Ingrid watched as their siblings made their way out of the room. She looked at Elin, who was removing her tiara.

“Need any help?” Ingrid asked.

“No, I’m used to it, but thank you.”

She set it on the table in front of them and turned back to Ingrid.

“I don’t need to worry or anything about comments like that, do I?”

“Comments like what?”

“What Mari just said about Sarah Anne being family soon,” Elin said.

Ingrid undid Elin’s top button and placed her hand there over Elin’s skin.

“No, my love.” She smiled at her. Then, she sighed. “Do we have to go to this party? Can we be, like, twenty minutes late?”

Elin laughed a little and said, “I’m afraid not. It’s sort of a party for me, and we’re already twenty minutes late.” Elin slid onto Ingrid’s lap.

“You arenothelping,” Ingrid remarked.

Elin ran her fingertip down the column of Ingrid’s neck and said, “Find me in the kitchen later? We can have coffee and tea together while everyone else is out there talking about us.”

Ingrid kissed her and asked, “Are you over your clumsiness now that we’re together?”

“No way.” Elin laughed. “You willalwaysmake me nervous in the best way, which means I will always be clumsy around you.”

“Good,” Ingrid replied, pressing her lips to the center of Elin’s chest. “I love you.”

“I love you, too,” Elin replied.
