The males behind her shifted closer, and I didn’t like it. My own shuffled closer and blocked them from leaving.

“You just proved to me that I would have killed them if they had harmed you. But to leave them here? I see why you tried to save the Cripple Creek wolves.”

Someone cleared his throat, Rife, I suppose.

“I uh. I brought her here knowing she’d have to find out the truth.”

A growl vibrated through me, and I watched as he backed into the broken ass wall.

“I think she needed to know if she was going to be my Luna. She needed to know how fucking broken we all are. She needed to be better than her stepmother. She needed to be stronger. I won’t be a part of a pack where I’ll lose everything again.”

I nodded and met the glow of his wolf’s gaze. Wolf to wolf, he knew I was stronger, but did he know that I was a man of my word? Now maybe he did.

“I guess I have my answer,” said Kiara.

I looked back at her.

“What answer?”

She took my face in both her hands.

“That my past was worth letting go.”

Rife made a strange, wounded sound and Kiara looked over his way.

“Rife, you can be part of our future. Part of The Black Creek Pack. You all can. Help me find the rest of us?”

The room wasn’t spinning as I took in the Kiara scented air.

“That’s okay, right, Devon? We can bring them all home? Whoever is left?”

I nodded. Because it all felt right. My mate and her pack part of the bigger picture. Part of a solution.

“Yes. Find whoever is left and bring them back to our lands. We need to be the change. We need to create a better future.”

Rife moved towards the others and they all seemed quiet for far too long, but the three other wolves stepped closer.

“We’re it.”

I clenched my teeth.

“How are you all that’s left?”

One of them shrugged. “The woman and children who survived are already with you. We’re the last males of the Starry Hollow Pack.”

Kiara whispered something that even my wolf's hearing struggled to make out.

“What, princess?”

She smiled up at me. “Starry Hollow. At least I have a name now for what I could have been. But now I know. My father was a broken man and his choices ended his pack. We, together, will ensure the future of the Black Creek Pack just like you said. We are strongest together. All of us.”

CHAPTER21

Kiara

I slappedDevon’s chest as he rocked his hips against me.

“Get off of me, you horny bastard.”
