“She doesn’t have to move my stuff, I can do that.” I shift to get up.

“No, that’s what she’s paid to do. She would get offended.”

“Oh.” I run my fingers over his arms. “You got very intimidating Mr. Starks.”

“Did I now?” He rolls, pulling me back into his embrace. “I don’t like to be disturbed with you in my arms. Gerry has done so wonderfully twice already.” I laugh. “The staff know their roles; that was a rookie mistake.”

“Do you like having staff? You like having someone to make your bed for you, something that simple?” I ask him, smirking. I watch him lace our fingers. He starts kissing my fingertips.

“Show me one person who wouldn’t want someone to do the daunting tasks of bed making or any scullery maid duties. This is what they choose to do. So without my employment, they wouldn’t have an income. Plus I pay members of my staff very, very well. Yes, I like staff.” He continues to kiss my fingertips, watching my eyes.

“What about me?”

“What do you mean?”

“These scullery tasks … I did them at the inn. Do you see me in the same light as your staff?”

“Yeah … you would have never done such things had we run the inn together. There would have been a hired maid service.” I laugh at him shaking my head. “What? Did you actually enjoy doing all the cleaning and cooking? It brought you happiness?”

“Well, no … not happiness. But it had to be done.”

“Exactly! My wife would never be a maid. Period!”

I laugh shaking my head. “I’ve just been in their shoes … I guess. They probably don’t look at it as mundane tasks. But their job, it doesn’t define them.” He shrugs kissing my fingers clearly uninterested in discussing this matter. “I find you very sexy,” I whisper.

“Excuse me sir, I’m bringing in Ms. Amelia’s items.”

“Thank you.” He doesn’t turn towards her. He’s grinning at me. “You hungry? I haven’t eaten breakfast.”

“Thank you,” I tell her. “Yes, I just need to find something to wear.”

“You’re welcome ma’am.” I watch her take my toiletries to his bathroom. Then she unpacks my bag.

He laughs and whispers, “Staff,” as he hops off the bed.

I slip on a pair of shorts. He’s grinning and watching me. I walk into his bathroom, flip the light switch, and close the door. She even unpacked my toothbrush. I bet she would offer to put my toothpaste on it. I laugh as I do it myself.

“You ready?” he asks as I walk out of the bathroom. I nod, grabbing my mug. She is already stripping my sheets when we walk by.

“Has everyone already eaten?” I ask as we reach the deck.

“Yes, it’s after ten.” He grins as we sit at the table. Toni brings us mimosas. Within a few minutes the steward from last night appears. “What would you like for breakfast?” Quinton asks me.

I look at him. “I don’t know. What are my options?”

“Ma’am, we have anything you would like,” the steward says. I look at Quinton wearing a smug expression.

“Really … so, if I wanted a Belgian waffle with fresh strawberries, blue berries, whip cream, bacon, and fresh ambrosia, you have all that available?”

“Is that what you would like?” I look at Quinton who is grinning.

“Yes.”

“Very well ma’am. Sir?” he asks Quinton.

“Make it two, sounds delicious.”

“This is crazy.” I laugh looking out over the water.
