She hummed with pleasure, feeling full of joy. “As long as we get to be together with these two perfect angels, I don’t care. I really love it here. It’s a great place for the twins to grow up, plus their cousins will be arriving soon too.”

Killion watched his sister Ayelish dance with her new groom in the distance. “I can’t believe they’re going to live here too. It’s such a big change.”

“A welcome change,” Rainy said. “The work we’ll all get to do here will be so rewarding. Especially with BK Security as a silent partner. We’ll see everyone often. We’re only a couple of hours away.”

“Eventually, we’ll be able to be less discreet and spend time in Portland too, but I think this is it for us. There’s something about this place,” Killion shared. “Something special. New beginnings.”

“Hey, thanks for backdating that marriage license and performing the ceremony,” Killion said to Carter Landry as he approached them.

“No problem. Needed to happen so Rainy could inherit all your assets as a widow and restructure so you had access and stayed hidden.”

“Have a seat,” Rainy said to Carter. “Only the little ones will drool on you.”

“Ah, thanks, but I’m heading out soon,” Carter said. “Got a lot of work to do before separating from the US District Attorney’s office for good.”

“You going to miss it?” Killion asked.

“Not at all. It’s been a long time coming. I’m going into private practice, put down roots. Just so you know, anything Safe Haven needs as far as legal, I’m your guy. Pro bono.”

“Where’re you putting down roots? Here?” Killion asked. “My cousin Sheridan is.”

Carter looked off in the distance at Sheridan while she danced with another man. “Nah. Portland. I’ll stay near the team and family. Sheridan is marrying that asshole anyway… doesn’t need me around causing trouble.”

“My cousin doesn’t have a ring yet,” Killion said. “I’ll believe it when I see it.”

“I got the invite in the mail,” Carter said. “It’s practically a done deal, ring or not. Anyway, stay out of trouble and call me if you need anything at all.”

“Ditto,” Killion said. “Drive safe, and don’t be a stranger.”

Carter waved over his shoulder as he left, climbing the stairs along the cliff to where everyone was parked.

“I feel bad,” Rainy said. “I really thought Carter and Sheridan would end up together. Everyone did.”

“It’s not over yet.” Killion grinned as he took in Sheridan watching Carter leave. “Not by a long shot.”

Rainy followed his gaze to Sheridan, then up to Carter. “Ooh, you might be right.”

She laid her head on his shoulder as they watched their family do what they did best, have fun and love each other.

“Any regrets?” she asked.

“None. I have it all. My wife, my children… family and friends. Even a new beginning. So far, death isn’t that bad.”

She swatted his chest. “Not funny at all, O’Reilly.”

“Really?” he asked earnestly.

“Not even a little bit.” She chuckled, realizing this was a classic Killion moment when he didn’t pick up those cues.

“Well, I thought it was funny,” he defended. “You’re really okay with all this? Living out here, like a dirty little secret, left out of the rest of the world?”

“I love it. Every bit of it. Like you said, we have it all. It doesn’t get much better than this. Nice change of pace.”

“I know what could make it better,” he said, laying her down on the blanket.

“Oh yeah, what’s that?”

“More babies. Practicing for more babies. Spending every day and night with you,” he said, hovering over her. “Loving you, just like this.”

She smiled. “Forever?”

“Forever is all I got, darlin’.”
