Damn, this man was full of shitty questions and comments right now.

“Yes. You’ll get used to the horniness after a while, and then you’ll probably be able to ignore it.”

His scowl told me that answer wasn’t what he wanted to hear. “How often do you need to feed?”

“Every couple of hours until the fever’s gone. After that, I’m sure I can get by on once a day or every other day.”

There was a long, tense moment of silence.

His scowl had only deepened.

Frustration welled up inside me. “So clearly, this isn’t something you’re interested in.”

His lack of response was response enough.

My frustration started morphing into anger. “That’s fine. It’s not a big deal. After I’ve healed from the fever, I can drink from other people the way I used to.”

I’d never feel fully satisfied—and I might puke a few times a week.

Eventually, the fever would return in full-force until I drank an excessive amount of the man’s blood to stave it off again.

But I’d survive.

And I’d rather deal with a little vomit than a mate who didn’t want me.

Kai’s jaw clenched tightly. “Fine.”

I knew I’d screwed things up in the bathroom; this conversation only confirmed that.

“Good.” I remained where I was.

I wasn’t just going to sit on him and feed from him without an invitation afterthatconversation.

“Thank you for picking up Lucas,” he said, his eyes softening slightly. “And for talking to the other parents.”

I scowled. “Oh please, I take pleasure in ripping people new assholes when they deserve it.”

A snort escaped him. “Well, it was appreciated.”

Now he was making me like him, dammit.

I stood quickly. “We’ll do this tomorrow. I’m really not starving.”

I spun toward the door, but his hand caught my wrist before I could escape.

And then he was dragging me toward him.

I didn’t put up as much of a fight as I probably should’ve.

“You’ll stay here with me, until you’re healed. Your coloring changes when you start getting hungry; I noticed while my wolf was in charge.”

I scowled. “I’m not staying here with you and your son, Kai. He would get confused, and I won’t do that to him.”

The man blinked. “I assumed you would stay outside.”

“In a tent?” My voice rose.

“Yes.”
