“It’s a simple, constant connection to Vevol’s magic,” he explained. “Most fae cannot focus long enough to keep it going for more than a few minutes, which makes me an outlier. For me, the connection has always been instinctual.”

Huh.

“Did your power increase after you kissed me? That’s supposed to be part of the bond, right?”

“Yes. It is, and it did.”

At least he had benefitted from the temporary bond, so I didn’t have to feel bad about putting him on the spot earlier.

Then again, I did still feel kind of bad.

“I probably should’ve given you more of a choice, with the mating thing,” I admitted.

“What do you mean?”

My tips twisted in a grimace. “Suddenly asking if I could kiss you wasn’t exactly the classiest way to go about asking if you’d be willing to temporarily bond with me to get me away from Teris.”

A moment of silence followed the confession.

When Remmo finally spoke, he said simply, “My answer would’ve been the same even if you’d given me more time to consider, or phrased the question differently.”

It probably shouldn’t have, but that made me feel slightly better.

“And for the record,” he added, his voice lower. “Should you ever want to kiss me again, there is no need to ask. My answer is always, without question, a yes.”

If I hadn’t been surrounded by literal ice water, my body would’ve heated. “I’ll keep that in mind.”

“Should I apologize for my lack of control in the forest?” he asked me.

It took me a minute to figure out what that one meant. “Oh, how you lost it when we were kissing? No, I get it. You’re a virgin, and anyway, that was hot. You made me feel sexy for the first time in like, forever.”

“You are extremely sexy.” One of his hands slid down to my lower back and curved around my ass cheek, giving it a nice squeeze. I grinned against his neck, and he chuckled.

“Do you think we’re healing?” I asked him.

“Not particularly. But I’m still enjoying this.” His hand remained on my butt.

“Me too.” I let out a slow sigh. “My friends are probably going to show up here looking for us soon. They knew I was headed this way, so when Teris tells them about you, they’re going to spill the beans.”

“We could leave, then.” His voice wasn’t urgent, and I knew he was putting the choice in my hands. “If we disguise our scents, we can stay away as long as we’d like to. When we return, it can be on our terms.”

Onmyterms, he meant.

And damn, I liked the way it sounded.

“I’d need a way to write the girls a note,” I said.

“There is plenty of untouched snow.”

I made a face. “It’s not very permanent.”

“We could portal to Earth, and bring paper back with us.”

Now he was talking. “How do you make an Earth portal?”

He chuckled. “I can teach you.”

Excitement flooded my veins. “Deal.”
