But in that cave, in that moment, he was all I wanted.

And I was going to embrace it for now.

He counted down, and then dove again.

This time, when my head broke the surface, I could already see the glowing.

My lips parted as my gaze scanned the space around me.

There were no words for the beauty that surrounded us.

The cave was long, open, and nearly pitch black, with what looked like naturally-occurring pillars stretching from the ceiling to the ground. The pillars held up a rough ceiling, covered in more of the beautiful shapes that the other rooms held.

But the room’s shape didn’t capture my attention.

Because there were so many pillars—and each of them, as far as I could see, was wrapped in vines and flowers that glowed in soft blues, and pinks, and purples.

Some kind of glowing bugs drifted around the space slowly, with wide wings that glittered in the light.

Remmo lifted me up onto the stone floor, setting me down on my ass and murmuring, “Don’t touch anything that glows. They all hold poison. It won’t kill you, but it will make you sick.”

Honestly, they were so beautiful that the warning of poison didn’t even faze me.

I stood up as Remmo slid out of the water, and even his gorgeous abs didn’t get a second glance as I started to move slowly through the cave.

His hand caught mine, and I slid my fingers between his as we continued to silently walk around, exploring everything.

“This is incredible,” I finally breathed. “Thank you for bringing me here.”

“Of course. You should’ve seen far more of Vevol’s beauty already.” He squeezed my hand lightly, and I squeezed his back.

He was right; I had been in this world for a really damn long time without seeing any part of it.

And now that I’d begun, I wanted to see more.

We reached what looked like the end of the cave, and my heart fell a little.

“Here.” He tugged on my hand lightly, leading me to the far-left side. “Follow close behind me. The walls here won’t hurt you if you touch them.”

I tucked my free hand up against my chest anyway as I walked at his back, trying to see over his gigantic shoulders but failing epically.

I noticed the walls grow tighter around us, and sucked in a breath as Remmo turned sideways to fit.

Still, I did the same, trying not to let myself start feeling claustrophobic as we went.

My breathing picked up anyway as the space got tighter.

And tighter.

And tighter.

I was already hunched over, and struggling to keep moving.

“Stay with me, Iloli,” Remmo murmured to me, as he continued leading me through the tight tunnel. It was much tighter for him than me, but that didn’t make me feel any better.

I nodded roughly, forcing myself to continue.

“Almost there,” he promised, when my breaths grew shallow as the panic grew thicker.
