My world nearly spun. “Really?”

“Yes. Lily and Jenna, two of the girls who’ve been here the longest, have been pretty sure that they’re fated for almost fifteen years. They couldn’t do anything about it or find out for sure until we got out of the unseelie land, but now that we’re free, they’ve sealed their bond.”

I raised my eyebrows. “Damn.”

Naomi continued, “They have the same mental connection that the other mated couples have, now. And they’ve started questioning everyone over the last few weeks, so they can put together a list of the identifiers for everyone else. All this to say, we’ve been talking about it. It seems like when all of those factors align, a couple is fated.”

“Shit. Are there any fated male couples? I’ve never heard the guys talk about that.”

“There are. They’ve only just started admitting it to themselves and everyone else.” She gave me a quick smile. “It’s sweet to see everyone working things out. Everyone except me and Aeven, at least.”

I grimaced for her. “I’m sorry.”

“It’s not your fault. And I’ve been talking to Fovea—she thinks she knows a way to separate me from him. She did it for one of her life-bringers once. Before the war and everything, after the guy she was paired with went insane. I can’t talk about details, but… there’s hope.” Her cheeks were pink, and her eyes were bright.

“Fovea does seem like the type who would know that shit.”

Naomi laughed. “Yeah. You should see her, now that she’s with Nev. She suddenly understands the benefit of having a mate, and is furious on my behalf that Aev and I didn’t work out.”

I snorted. “Thank Vevol for the female fae, I guess.”

“I guess so.”

The subject changed, and we chatted for a bit longer before I headed back to my room.

Knowing that Remmo and I were probably, in fact, fated…

Well, it screwed with my mind, that was for sure.

But it did make me feel better about ditching him outside.

Because one thing was certain:

If we were mates, he had known about it from the moment he slid out of the trees. And maybe even before then.

Remmo

I remained in the forest, just outside the Stronghold, while my female proceeded to pretend I didn’t exist.

One day passed, and then another, and another.

But I was a patient hunter.

I would wait an eternity for her if I needed to.

Eventually, she would emerge from the Stronghold.

And then, she would be mine in every way there was.

My brothers came to me with requests for help with their problems, but I sent them all on their way.

Because I was no longer Vuvim; not now that I had a female to protect, and teach, and love.

Now, I was her mate. And she was the most important thing in my world.
