If I had to guess, he was probably drawing out his plans for the new house. Or den, I supposed.

He chuckled in response. “You never thought you’d find a fae, either.”

My lips curved upward. “That’s true. I’m glad I did, though. Really, really glad. And I’m glad that out of all the men in this forest, it was you.”

“As am I, Iloli.”

Our voices had gotten softer, and as much as I didn’t want them to, my thoughts had turned inward.

And they’d slipped right into my life on Earth.

Remmo hadn’t asked me for details about it. He wasn’t self-conscious about not knowing them, either.

But… I wanted him to have them. To understand me. To know that I felt just as strongly about him as he did about me.

“My name is Summer,” I told him softly, barely audibly at all.

“Hello, Summer. You’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen,” Remmo murmured back. His fingers still moved on my spine, though if he’d been drawing plans for the house, he seemed to have given up on them. “That’s what I intended to tell you, the first time we spoke. I had it planned out. ‘Hello, Sunny,’ I would’ve said. ‘You’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen, and I think you may be my mate’. It would’ve been smooth, don’t you think?”

I laughed softly. “It would’ve been perfect. You alreadyknewwe were mates, though, didn’t you?”

“Of course. I figured a softer start would probably have a better chance of success, though.”

Another laugh escaped me. “Probably a good call.”

He murmured his agreement. “But then I saw how you felt about Teris, and I thought, what chance did I have? None of the women favored the unseelies. You were too wild, and too beautiful, to ever consider a man your people called Tame.”

“You’re not the Tame King,” I countered.

“Perhaps not. But isn’t that what you thought of all of us?”

I considered his words. “I guess it was.”

“It’s in the past now, though.” His words were soft, and his voice calm. “Thank Vevol.”

“Would you have come out of the trees and talked to me that day, if I hadn’t smelled you?” I asked him, growing more curious.

“Probably not,” he admitted.

My throat swelled. “Then I’m really damn glad you smell so good.”

“Me too.” His lips brushed the top of my head once, and then again.

And though my thoughts were on my Earth life, and he could probably feel some semblance of the war going on within me, he said nothing.

Just gave me the silence and peace that I needed.

“Remmo,” I finally said, my eyes stinging a little. “Can I tell you about my past?”

My voice wobbled a bit.

His hand stopped moving on my back. “Of course, Iloli.”

“It’s dark,” I warned him quietly. “You’ll probably want to hit something.”

“Then I’ll go find Teris, after you’ve said all you’re willing to.” His voice was light, but serious too.

And I couldn’t help it—I laughed softly. A few tears dripped onto his chest, and he resumed stroking my back slowly.
