Chloe's eyes flicker over to me. There’s a flare of surprise in them that should have given away my presence already, but no. The girl is too engaged in her tirade to notice.

“Um… Ava,” Chloe tries, but the girl continues.

“No, Chloe. I don't care if he pays me in gold. Never in a million years would I work for that pompous asshat."

“Good to know,” I step in wondering who this girl is and why she's rejecting a job I never offered.

The woman doesn’t spin around in her chair and stare at me in horror. Instead, I can see her spine stiffen as if she freezes from the inside out. She stays in that position for several seconds. And then her shoulders straighten and she stands, getting out of her seat.

Only then does she turn around and familiarity slams into me.

Of course. It’sher. If Chloe hadn’t just said her name, I wouldn’t remember it, but I do remember those flashing green eyes and that red hair like a mass around her face.

The same red hair I pulled as I slowly pushed my cock into her years ago.

Now, I'm not one of those guys that have a thing for redheads. It's the same as every other color to me. But I can’t lie, there’s something about the way her hair looked against white satin pillows that was just a tad magical.

Not to mention those legs that look like they could go on and on. Legs that had wrapped themselves around my waist tightly, pulling me in deeper, her wet core sucking at my cock like a damn vice, snatching any reason that dared come up.

I can feel a stirring in my cock now, interest perking up as that night comes back to me. I haven’t had a wild fuck like that in years.

And you won’t have it again, I tell myself. At least not with this girl.

I hadn’t known it at the time, but the sexy redhead from the bar was my little sister’s new roommate. Which means she was very off-limits. Chloe is one of the few people I would move the earth for, even withhold my inherently selfish urges. I don’t want to mess with someone she cares about.

Plus, the girl was a lot younger than she appeared. At the bar, she seemed quiet, sedated, if a little shy, but definitely mature for her age, even though there was a certain innocence that drew me.

Finding out later that she was Chloe’s roommate put things into perspective. She was probably somewhere around twenty years old at the time, which was far too young for me.

But now she looks even better, more mature, time adding some curves to her lean limbs.

And she definitely looks good enough to devour.

Settle down. This one is not for you.

I'm a bastard, but if there's one person I don't want to hurt, it's my sister. And messing around with this girl has the potential to end that friendship real quick.

Although, if she keeps staring at me with that challenge in her gaze, I might just forget my goodwill entirely.

“Hello Maddox,” she says, folding her hands in front of her. Prim and proper.

I can’t help but smirk. “Hello…” I pretend to draw a blank. “What was your name again?”

Her lips tighten in displeasure, and she stiffens even more. "Ava,” she says through tight lips.

Having just heard Chloe say it, I knew that already, but it is fun pulling her buttons.

It is a pretty name. “Ava,” I repeat, letting it roll off my tongue, watching her shiver slightly and her eyes darken when I say it. Or is it just my imagination? I think not.

“Tell me, Ava, when did I offer you a job?” I ask, and for the first time, she flushes red and looks down at her hands to avoid my gaze.

“You haven’t, sir,” she says, and I like the way the ‘sir’ sounds on her lips. “I’m just… I mean, your sister asked me if I would work for you and I was just telling her why I can’t.”

“Yes, I heard. And your reasons include everything from employee abuse to espionage, am I right? I mean, you should have thrown in some child sacrifice in there to make it real dirty.”

Her face flushes and she starts playing with her fingers. But just when I think I have her good and cowed, she looks up again, snagging my gaze with hers.

“I’m sorry,” she says, and I can see it’s an effort for her. Her gaze shows she still feels embarrassed but she wants to be fair to me. “I was just repeating stuff I’d heard around. I shouldn’t have since I realize I have no idea if it’s true or not.”
