“This was supposed to be a punishment,” Chauvelin reminded Ray with a snickering laugh.
They were in a desolate, frigid place. But to be fair, they were vampires and vampires did not feel the cold, nor did they particularly seek company. All they needed was one another.
“Oh yes. I know, how poor dear pater will be disappointed.”
They shared the kind of look that only two creatures of evil can share, a quiet and satisfied understanding. Soft chuckles turned to peals and cackles of wicked laughter echoing off distant icebergs.
When their mutual mirth died down, Chauvelin snuggled into Ray’s muscular arms, his dark eyes gleaming.
“Do you think he knows you were the one who reanimated the mother with ancient magic and set all these events in motion?”
“Not a chance,” Ray smirked. “He underestimates me to a lethal degree. He forgets I was there too, at the beginning of things. I stood beside him on the blood-drenched pyramids and I partook of the same sacrifices. Nowadays he considers me an obsequious, sniveling servant, and that suits me very well. Besides, I could not have done it without Lorien. He was the one who reminded me of the research in the remnants of the library. He was the one who hunted down the turning ingredients. He had potential. Pity he’s a wolf fucker too.”
“Mnnnghhhh… Your brand of manipulation is so fucking hot,” Chauvelin said, a slight moan in his tone, as if he could perhaps come from the underhandedness of it all. They truly were an excellent match, never in the foreground, but working in tandem in the shadows, setting dark machinations in progress.
“I just wish I could have been there to see how it ended,” Ray mused. “Oh well. All things in good time. Gideon will forgive me, or become bored, or need me, and then we will receive a summons back to the fray. For now, let us enjoy a well earned vacation.”
“Yes,” Chauvelin agreed, practicing a menacing tone of doom, knowing he would need it later on, and knowing Ray found it absolutely adorable. “Let’s.”
