“Uh, why?”

“He said I slept with him, and my man took exception to the insinuation,” Lisa replies with a shrug, starting to eat. I likewise pick up my wrap.

“Seems stupid to lie in front of your boyfriend.”

“Oh, it wasn’t a lie,” Lisa laughs cheerily. “I made some choices in the short time I had at college that I now look back on with regret.”

I get that. We all did stupid stuff at college. But there’s stupid, and there’s… well, Pete.

“Yeah, butPete?” I wrinkle my nose. He would possibly be at the very bottom if I had to list the Wolf Pack in order of if I’d ever go there while a gun was pointed at my back.

Lisa sighs, shaking her head. “Like I said, major regrets.” We both laugh as Lisa continues her story. “But then Hank said I wasn’t a lady, I was…whatever. That’s when Palmer broke his nose. I’m pretty sure it was broken.”

I shove my empty plate aside, and Lisa mops up the last of her burger juices with her fries.

“He got plastic surgery,” I mention casually, picking up my coffee. Lisa’s eyes widen as she snorts.

“Course he did,” she mutters.

“Apparently, there was abend.”

Lisa is howling with laughter, holding her sides, and a super good-looking guy in a biker vest slides into the booth with her, crowding her space and pressing his lips against her ear.

“What’s so funny?” he asks, right against her ear. I’m not expecting her to answer because she isn’t looking at his face, but she does.

“Hank, the guy whose nose you broke, got plastic surgery.”

“Shove over, kid.” A voice rumbles above me. I glance up, my stomach flipping as Merch slides into the booth with me.

How is he still just as gorgeous? Surely it’s not logically possible. Obligingly, I shuffle over, enjoying how he keeps sliding, even when he’s fully in the booth, until his thigh is pressed against mine. Merch lounges back, throwing his arm along the back of the seat, behind my head, and turning his attention back to his friend and Lisa.

“Surgery? For a broken nose?” Lisa’s boyfriend is staring at her in shock. “I didn’t hit him that hard.”

“It was cosmetic,” Lisa assures him, waving her hand dismissively. “Hank is very proud of his looks. A bend would have been a big deal.”

There is a snort beside me, and Lisa realizes I don’t know her boyfriend.

“This is Palmer and Merch,” Lisa introduces them. I wave to her boyfriend, having obviously already met Merch. “How is my mother?”

I shrug. I imagine she is the same as she always was. She was just like mine.

“She didn’t approve of my outfit. We met in the den because I wasn’t dressed appropriately for the sitting room.”

Lisa snorts, and Merch very slowly looks me over. His dark eyes are caressing me. It’s the fucking fun day all over again. I’m practically squirming in my seat. I didn’t get off that day, so I have two instances of Merch’s eyes driving me crazy horny with no relief.

“What’s wrong with what you’re wearing?” he asks eventually, frowning. “If anything, you’retoocovered up.”

Giggling, I grin up at him. “There areripsin my jeans, and I’m wearing…polyester.”

“The horror,” Lisa snorts, Merch’s eyebrows shooting up as he takes another look at my clothes. Lisa’s boyfriend looks me over too, more perfunctorily than Merch, his brows drawing together in a frown.

“What the fuck is polyester?”

Lisa smirks up at him, shaking her head. “You don’t care.”

His face clearing, he nods. “I definitely don’t.”

Lisa turns to me with a smile, clearly intent on ignoring her boyfriend and Merch.
