Eli puts on a big one. It nearly falls over his eyes.

She laughs.

“Every time he puts it on, it’s just a little different size.”

Keene adds, “We just switched one that’s just a little small.”

She covers her mouth. “How long have you been doing this?”

“Years,” Eli’s eyes are shining.

Her face is beaming. “I want in. Do you do any other pranks?”

Keene shrugs. “Here and there.”

She claps her hands together. “Oh, let me do it too.”

We all look at each other.

“Fine.” Eli shrugs.

“Yeah, whatever,” Keene says.

I nod.

“Yes.” She fist-bumps all of us.

“I’m going to come up with some good ideas.”

Elizabeth walks past the doorway, and Eli and Keene stuff the hats in their pockets.

Elizabeth stops and narrows her eyes at us. “What are you doing in here?”

“We’re trying to get Maggie to spill all your secrets so we can figure out how to beat you at charades,” Eli says.

Elizabeth laughs. “Well, nothing Maggie can tell you will help with that.”

Maggie shrugs. “She’s right.”

Elizabeth gives us one final suspicious look and leaves.

Keene turns to Maggie. “There are rules.”

“Okay.”

“Pranks can’t hurt people – physically or emotionally. No property damage either.”

“Were these rules made specifically for you, Keene?” she asks.

He frowns. “I don’t want to talk about it.”

She pats his arm and smiles over at me. “This is going to be fun.”
